Boutique Tour: Ghost Orchid Bride in Yorkshire

We love Bridal Fashion here at B.LOVED and exploring the latest designers and trends to inspire you. We had the pleasure of visiting a super trendy bridal boutique with a modern bohemian luxe edge and of course – amazing wedding dresses! Ghost Orchid Bride is in the beautiful village of Hessle in Yorkshire, and run by the lovely Katey. I swooned from the moment I saw the incredible handbaead sequin gown in the window, the Icarus Gown by Odylyne The Ceremony and couldn’t wait to see inside! The boutique is contemporary chic and the collection includes incredible labels such as & For Love, Alexandra Grecco and Marquiste Bridal. If you’re looking your wedding dress in the North, it’s great to see such a unique brand and with a rare collection of designers. We interviewed Katey to find out more about Ghost Orchid Bride, upcoming trends for 2018, and enjoy the photographic tour by myself at Catharine Noble Photography!

What is the meaning behind the name ‘Ghost Orchid Bride’?
A Ghost Orchid is a rare and unconventional flower. It was thought to be extinct in the UK but was recently found growing in forests again. In order to grow the Ghost Orchid doesn’t follow the same rules as other flowers and we also see our brides as women who aren’t afraid to break traditions and even make a few rules up of their own as they go along. The Ghost Orchid is a delicate beautiful white flower which conversely grows wildly in the darkest parts of the woods. I find this push and pull between light and dark interesting and it’s a cool aesthetic to be associated with.

What is your style and what sort of Bride is the Ghost Orchid Bride?
At Ghost Orchid we have a pretty simple, modern, low key yet fun vibe with a fuss free, stylish and comfortable showroom. We have a diverse range of designer gowns from some of the best indie labels across the globe. Although we have a keen eye on fashion and all of our dresses reflect this, we believe people should reflect their own personality through their wedding outfit which is why we selected our designers who ensure we have dresses ranging from bohemian, minimal, contemporary, alternative and romantic so there really is something for every fashion conscious bride. Our brides are usually laid back, modern women who are looking for something more unique and who have a clear idea of what they want their outfit to say about them.

What are your favourite wedding trends at the moment in both fashion and decor?
Oh gosh this is such a difficult question as I love different wedding trends for different people! I am really loving dresses covered in sequins and all over sparkle at the moment. Not just the odd scattered gem but crazy condensed sparkle. This and super high side splits in skirts I’m loving. In terms of décor I think there’s something really beautiful about a sparse, dark, even industrial venue but covered in an almost over the top amount of fairy lights, candles and wild flowers. Again the contrasting imagery is appealing.

What would be your trend predictions for 2018 bridal fashion?
Brighter colours, more feathers, bigger ruffles and brighter sparkles! I can also see the monochrome look taking off with lots of black accents to compliment gowns. I think embroidery is becoming more popular and people are getting bolder in their choice of colours.

What labels do you stock and why do brides love them?
We stock Odylyne the Ceremony from L.A who create completely out of this world, inimitable yet really romantic gowns that are always ahead of the game. Daughters of Simone from San Francisco are a firm favourite with our laid back more bohemian brides who want something chilled out but still very luxurious and flattering. Our Canadian label & For Love bring us super modern edgy designs that are surprising in the best possible way. New York label Alexandra Grecco create incredibly stylish, well cut luxury gowns and get it just right every time. Another US designer Chantel Lauren give us beautiful, charming dresses and have a wonderful use of colour throughout their collections. Our latest designer Marquise Bridal is from Australia and you can really see this super cool laid back, sultry vibe coming through in their designs.

What are your favourite parts about running such a fashion forward and beautiful Bridal Boutique?
Apart from being surrounded by incredible dresses all day long it is so rewarding meeting women who are on one of the happiest journeys they will take, and knowing you’ve played a small part in helping them feel their best on what will be their most memorable day. I love hearing about our brides back stories and all of the interesting wedding plans they have.

What would be your own personal bridal look if you were getting married right now?
I get asked this question so often and it’s the most difficult one to answer! However, I am a believer in going with what suits you and reflects who you are so despite loving each and every dress I have in store, right now for me I would either go with the Icarus by Odylyne the Ceremony or Laurent by Marquise Bridal (or both if I was feeling extravagant!!) Because these dresses are so detailed my hair would be a simple low bun and I’d want natural make up but team this with some mega earrings!

What inspires you? ( This can be anything from the blogs you read, to decor and influences )
I think you can find inspiration anywhere. From films and music to simply walking down the street, I think the best inspiration comes from daily living and what’s going on around us.

Do you have any exciting plans for Ghost Orchid Bride in 2018?
We have some amazing trunk shows and designer events in the showroom coming up in 2018 which are listed on our website and I’m sure we will have some great collaborations with other industry related businesses which are always fun. People should keep an eye out for all of our new dresses arriving this January and throughout the year too. However we will have some big BIG news around August time but for now we are sworn to secrecy! Watch this space ;)
