Bridal Styling for Winter Weddings
Summertime has comes to an end and winter is just around the corner and although we shall miss the warm summer evenings, we welcome the cosy, wrap-up-warm wintry days ahead! To keep warm from the bitter cold, we layer up with coats, hats, scarves and about 3 layers of t-shirts under our jumpers! But how do you keep warm on your wedding day and still add a bit of winter glamour to your look.
Long sleeved dresses are a good place to start. Since the Royal wedding in 2011 of Prince William and Kate Middleton, whose dress was created by Alexander McQueen, long sleeved wedding dresses have become extremely popular. Kate chose lace for her design, but with designers experimenting with lots of different fabrics, the choice is endless.
Sally Eagle has recently launched a collection of dresses with lots of long lace sleeved options including the Siena, June and Genevieve dresses. These beautiful dresses include a variety of different necklines and back options featuring beautiful scalloped edges, criss cross style straps and peep button backs. (Don’t worry that’s a new one on us too but it’s a cute look!)
If you are looking for a beaded sleeve dress then the Petra or Celeste dress by Vicky Rowe are absolutely perfect. Both of these styles feature thousands of tiny hand sewn beads and sequins, making them the perfect choice for a wedding over the Christmas period, because of the way the beautiful beading catches the light.
If you are looking for something a little bit more unusual. The Una dress from our own Luella’s collection has stunning three quarter length ivory and blush pearl sleeves. The pearls are a unique twist on the more traditional style of beaded sleeve and the blush colour is the perfect way of introducing a warm colour tone to your wedding day outfit. If you would prefer a dress without sleeves, then there are many ways to ensure that your wedding outfit will still look gorgeous but also keep you warm!
The Travel Wrap Company creates beautiful cashmere blend pashmina’s that are perfect for a wedding and very useful for after your wedding too. The pashmina’s are available in a range of colour’s including this stunning Shimmer wrap which comes in a gorgeous chalk colour with tiny silver threads running through it. You can also choose to personalise your cover up, so you could either add yours and your husbands initials for a cute wedding day memory, or maybe add the initials of your bridesmaids or your mum for the perfect wedding day gift.
Blanche in the Brambles produces some lovely cover ups, including this beautiful Ivory Evie Rose bolero, which is handmade out of soft, faux fur. It will add a glamorous touch to your wedding dress, while keeping your shoulders nice and toasty on the day.
Another idea is to use layering to keep warm. Adding a jacket of a different texture, especially sequins or velvet, will definitely keep you warm but it will also draw more attention to your wedding outfit. Wear a sequinned jacket in a gold, silver or bronze to compliment your accessories or choose a velvet blazer in a rich jewel inspired colour, such as emerald green or sapphire blue for a sumptuous twist. You can also accessorise your blazer with a beautiful brooch to add the ultimate sparkly finishing touch.
If you fancy wearing a short dress but are worried about getting cold legs, then why not considering accessorising your outfit with a pair of sparkly or coloured tights! It’s a bit out there, but if you get it right then it could be the perfect way to make a real style statement. Team your tights with a pair of great shoes and you will not only be warm but stylishly dressed from head to toe.
