Cacti Chic at The Venue Fontana

The Story: The inspiration for this “cacti chic” shoot was a large cactus planted forty-five years ago by Achille Fontana on what is now the Fontana Family Estate. Nestled on the corner and in full view as one drives up to the family homes, every year, when in full bloom, the cactus is not only a reminder of their grandfather, but also of his love for cacti.

The Location:  The Venue Fontana, located on the Fontana Family farm in the Natal South Coast of South Africa. This stunning estate is an award-winning wedding venue run by Mara Fontana full of rustic chic details like its sliding barn doors, cement walls and high wooden ceilings on a farm setting.

The Vibe: Elegant boho with romantic, natural charm. This was achieved through a natural colour palette with shades of green, white, cream and glamorous touches of gold and rose gold metallics. Glass, concrete, soil and water were key elements used to invoke the earthy feel of the farm and its surroundings. Macramé detailing introduced a bohemian vibe.

The Details: Cherise wore a designer Casey Jeanne custom made jumpsuit with a huge bow train (see B.LOVED’s feature on the bridal bow trend here). She carried an elegant bouquet filled with a giant Xerographica air plant, dried banksia, bleached strelitzia leaves, soft white bunny tails and variegated green foliage. The outdoor ceremony led to a large arch smothered with sustainable farm foraged succulents. The three-tier white cake from Lauren Lee Cake Couture was dressed with a macramé wrap by ARTESENSE, and served with artistically handmade sugar art consisting of cacti and orchids. These were accompanied by sweet cacti themed cookies from Pink Sugar.

Highlights:

  • The key element to creating this look is to keep it simple, yet gorgeously elegant, natural and pleasing to the eye.
  • If you are using a theme like cacti, think about how to use this throughout your look without going overboard. This shoot included subtle nods to the theme such as planted cacti in white contemporary vases on the main table, rooted cacti and succulents in sparkling glass vases and black and white succulent designed napkins.
  • If you want to add a boho vibe, think outside the box like the gorgeous hand-made macramé placemats and macramé cake dressing used in this shoot.
