Celestial Wedding Inspiration by the Sea in Salento

The inspiration for this Italian seaside wedding shoot was a tale of two lovers brought together by the moon and stars. Combining warm colours with rich earthy tones, this dream team created something truly magical on the shores of the Adriatic sea.

Look up to the Moon, My Love

This is the story of Leon, a traveller of extreme beauty, who lands in a foreign yet enchanted place letting himself be guided by the stars. Along the way, whilst climbing the dunes of the wild and wonderful new land, he meets Selene, a sweet and beautiful girl. It’s love at first sight, under the light of the full moon.

The Location

The location of this styled elopement shoot was The Cesine National Park on the Adriatic coast of Salento-Puglia in Italy managed by WWF. This is the last surviving stretch of the vast coastal marshes that once characterized the Apulian coast from Brindisi to Otranto. In the park there are two pondsSalapi and Pantano Grandefed by the rains and separated from the sea by a strip of sandy dunes.

The Style and Colours

This shoot combines glamourous elements—such as the Vera Wang bridal gown and statement floral earringswith the wild environment of The Cesine National Park.

The key styling points of this shoot were inspired by naturethe sky, the sea and the moon—and set against the contrasting colours of the fruits used on the tablescape and the earthiness of the terracotta plates. Both warm and cool tones were used, including blue, light blue, orange, green, beige and terracotta.

The Details

Seasonal flowers and fruits were used with terracotta and seashells. For the tablescape, decorative elements were created from wrought iron in the shape of moon crescents and the sun to represent the union of the darkness with the light. These were painted with gold to create a striking contrast. Cultural elements, such as Fatima’s Hand or “Hamsa” were also incorporated and tied back to the universal theme.

Key Tips

  • Explore your environment in order to discover hidden gems that can make for a perfect shoot location.
  • Show respect to the nature inspired theme by looking for sustainable materials for your shoot that can be reused.
  • When deciding on your colour palette, choose two main colours and reflect these throughout all of the details in various shades to add consistency, warmth and texture.
