DESIGN YOUR WEDDING SHOES
Let’s be honest, a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes. On your big day, your wedding shoes become extra-important, not just as added pretty beneath your dress but also needing to be comfortable from ceremony to last dance, and everything in between. My own wedding shoes were a bit of a disaster – super pretty but with a plastic lining which stuck to my feet within minutes of walking into the chapel (it was HOT!). So when the girls at Upper Street Shoes invited me along to their pretty London shoe lounge to design a completely bespoke pair of my own, of course I was delighted to oblige! I brought along BLOVED Contributor Thea from Xander & Thea to capture the pretty.
Located just of Oxford Circus, above the hustle and bustle of the Oxford Street shoppers and tourists, the studio is a super stylish girly haven, complete with neon signage (life is short, buy the shoes!), quirky wall paper and of course LOTS of gorgeous shoes! My personal stylist Helena took time to pour us tea before settling down to discuss the process.
As a designer at heart I was in my element; first trying on a selection of styles to check fit and comfort, and browsing some of the designs on display before being let loose on the sample cupboard. Surrounded by swatches of leather and satin in all colours from neon pink to glitter to snakeskin I was absolutely in heaven! Working with Helena and Upper Street’s 3D shoe designer I eventually created my very own pair of powder blue leather courts with a stiletto heel and grey snakeskin detail on the two and heel. Being able to choose every detail allowed me to create something unique and personal to me – made extra special with the option to choose my own inscription hidden in the sole. Of course I chose ‘Luxe & Lovely’!
Starting at £195 a pair, a custom pair of Upper Street shoes would make a luxurious wedding day treat, and you can take advantage of the special bridal service too – bring along your best girls for a super fun hour designing your wedding shoes, followed by some retail therapy nearby perhaps?! Whether it’s a pair of pretty flats, sexy sandals or show-stopping heels, you can literally create whatever you want, with a hidden inscription for your new husband in the sole, or using the lining as your ‘something blue’, or adding embellishment and colour to your wedding shoes.
The only problem is, it’s rather addictive, I’m already designing my next pair….
