ALETHIEA’S REAL BRIDE DIARY: MOTIVATION
Hello you lovely lot! I again, cannot believe it’s been another month since my last post! Time is literally flying in until our wedding and I’ve been busy choosing my destination wedding team! It’s 3 nerve-wracking (so much still to do!), exciting months away and I’m currently on a serious health kick to get clearer skin, shinier hair and stronger nails. I’m hitting the gym hard with my personal trainer in a bid to get back my pre-moving-in-with-the-boy, body.
In Gujurati (his cultural background) there is a phrase called soukna soja (totally butchered the spelling) – this is specifically the type of fat you gain when you move in with your loved one and indulge and oh, I really went wild with this, so have been using the wedding as great motivation to get myself together again! It’s all about the pictures and confidence for me!
How I’d look on my wedding day was giving me serious pause. I am so used to being behind the camera and not in the spotlight that the thought of 100 eyes all looking at me made me feel a little nervous and so when picking my suppliers, I kept this in mind! Working on styled shoots with Sophie from Coco & Kate before, and seeing her great sense of style and her lovely and kind personality, it was a no brainer to make it my first stop when looking for my dress! It luckily happened to be my last too. I walked in to her beautiful, calming atelier full of jaw dropping dresses and fell in love with the first one I tried on! It was everything! Red carpet worthy, feminine, classy, sexy, not to mention made my bum look great! I actually went alone as I had booked a last minute appointment (mum and my bridesmaids live all over the UK) but I have to say it was actually one of the best decisions I have made. I didn’t have anyone else trying to impose what they had in mind for me, yet Sophie was graciously honest on what suited me best. (I have since gone back with my maids and there were a lot of happy tears so I know I picked well!)
My makeup and hair was next on my list to ensuring I look my best and also still look like me. I don’t tend to wear a lot of makeup and in 30+ degree didn’t want to be caked. Italians tend to wear much more makeup and I was really worried about finding someone over there that I’d feel comfortable with and that would get my vision. Having worked with Jo from Hair and Makeup Atelier on bridal inspiration shoots before and seeing her beautiful flawless makeup and hair design, I knew that I had to have her do my makeup/hair! I loved that she took into consideration the overall design elements of our wedding when helping me decide upon my makeup and hair at our trial. Having such a chilled out and fun person (who nailed what I was after!) on my dream team has given me serious peace which don’t you know, is great for distressing skin!
Choosing the right photographer and videographer was equally important too! (Being a wedding photographer this was the first thing we booked before even the venue!) When choosing our wedding photographer, André from Branco Prata, my main criteria was to find someone that shot women in a beautiful, classy and natural way. Branco Prata’s photos are vibrant, elegant and romantic. We decided to invest in a videographer. All my brides who have had one said it was the best decision they ever made and those that didn’t said it was there biggest regret, so we definitely made sure that a great videographer fit in with our budget. Finding the right videographer was a bit of a challenge until we stumbled upon Marco Caputo films. His videos remind me of old Italian adverts or movies. They are glamorous, intimate and sooo romantic. I already just can’t wait to relive our day for years to come through our photos and video. I have spoke with some brides in the past who say they prefer going for a female photographer but there are so many talented men in the wedding industry that just seem to get how women want to be captured and Marco Caputo and André (Branco Prata) just seem to do just that, so I’d strongly advise brides not rule out male vendors but look for those like Marco and André that capture women (and couples) in the most stunning way! (Sofia from Branco Prata is also styling and doing our flowers and her aesthetic matches perfectly with André’s images, elegant and romantic so I can’t wait to see her jaw dropping work)
Planning a wedding abroad is hard and anybody who decides to do so, I strongly recommend hiring a planner. I work lots with Holly and Susie, from Revelry Events, here in the UK and I am always amazed at how calm, cool and collected they are in the most frenzied parts of the wedding day! I knew I needed to have this pair by my side in Italy as I trust them wholeheartedly. It is such a relief to know I have people on hand to control and carry the day through from start to finish. They are so upbeat, nothing is ever a bother and they are so freaking organised! Having planners you truly trust has been such a weight off my mind. I really want to be able to just relax and enjoy the day so having these brilliant two on team has been one of the best decisions we have made in the wedding process, because a happy bride is a pretty bride!
