ECLECTIC BRIDE’S DIARY: THE DRESS
Hello BLOVED readers, this month we are fully in the swing of wedding season. This year, as well as our own we have 4 weddings, 3 stag and hen do’s and I am a bridesmaid twice! It really is the year of all years – very exciting! Plus it’s so nice to have fellow brides-to-be to share ideas and dilemma’s with.
For this post I wanted to share with you my search for the perfect dress – without giving too much away of course! I wanted to share this as for me, it definitely wasn’t the easiest of experiences.
Despite what people say about always going back to the first dress you tried on, I didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself to find ‘the one’ straight away, looking back I think that is important. Those two little words can seem so daunting. I had been to bridal shops before as a bridesmaid, but hadn’t ever thought about the type of dress I would like – until now!
The first dress shop I went to was David’s Bridal, they have a huge store with a whole range of styles and so thought it would be a good place to start. I went along with my bride friend on a Saturday and after picking out about 10 dresses to try on each we were taken to a huge room, packed full of other brides all trying on dresses too. There was a huge girlie buzz about the place, and a lot of ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ – which was magical!
However, when it came to my go I think I was just so overwhelmed – the first 3 dresses I tried on I couldn’t face coming out of the changing room – it was just such a shock seeing myself in so much white fabric! I found it all a bit much and not quite as I had thought it would be. After several more dress shop visits I still couldn’t find anything which felt comfortable or which felt me and so I started to try and think outside the box – which is when I came across Fur Coat No Knickers, a vintage style boutique in Leathermarket. I went along one evening with my friend, and unlike everywhere else I had been, from the minute I arrived I felt so relaxed. After the warmest welcome from the FCNK girls and a glass of bucks fizz in hand we started chatting away about what I was looking for – I was soon reassured that I was in the right place – yay!
Then the fun began… every dress I tried on was so lovely, it was the first time I had felt amazing and the first time I had felt like a real bride! It was such a relief. My next dilemma was choosing from all the beautiful designs. The great thing about FCNK is that the dresses are made especially for you, and so you can add or takeaway as much detail, volume and colour as you like, to create a perfect combination…
I now have no doubt in my mind that I have found my perfect dress, which is too exciting! I have learnt that the key is to find a dress which reflects you as a person, and if that is something a bit different then why not – you only do it once! I am so excited to see it all finished.
