EWC WEDDING STYLING WORKSHOP
You might have guessed by now I’m pretty passionate about the pretty! As soon as I started writing BLOVED I got involved in curating and styling editorial shoots. Over the past four years I have been lucky to work with some of the industry’s finest, building up a beautiful portfolio which has been featured in the bridal world’s top blogs and magazines. But before you start thinking this post is all about me, let me tell you the one thing I love more than styling is sharing my knowledge and experience with other planners and stylists who share my passion for beautiful things.
Late last year I recieved an email from Dutch photographer Anouschka Rokebrand, founder of the European Wedding Congress, inviting me to take part and teach a workshop at this year’s Congress held at Kasteel de Hooge Vuursche this March. With over 100 attendees (eek!) and fellow speakers Jasmine Star, KT Merry and Pearl & Sheena from Pearl & Godiva it promised to be an incredible few days. Fast forward to a sunny March day and I arrived at the castle ready to teach a group of stylists from all over Europe some of my top tips and secrets!
After a morning discussing my creative process, the students were split into three groups each responsible for creating a different aspect of their own editorial shoot – styling either the table, the couple or the details. Working together, they created a completely different take on my Delft Blue theme (you can see my take on this look over here) with an richer, opulent style, captured by photographer Jennifer Hejna.
From the morning session, Annette from Hartje Blaricum Celebrations said…
“I LOVED your workshop (and the welcome goody bag with the lovely notebook). Actually, I learnt most from your theory and I found it very interesting to learn from your personal story. You were very open and clear, which I liked a lot.”
I loved how this group styled the table as a sweetheart setting using this striking blue patterened linen, and elevating the flowers using a tall candlestick making a real impact! They really thought about the little details which makes the overall look feel really special, with silk ribbons, loose flowers and delicately placed stationery items.
Gisela from Die Kath, a wedding florist based in Germany, worked with the team to create this beautiful tablescape. She said
“What I really enjoyed at the workshop day was the creative atmosphere. I got a lot input and inspiration for my work, what I need to work on, or also get to know ,what you do in the right way, which is also good, to know that you are on a good path. I wanted to inspire my clients with a more international style.”
From this group, Davy Achten, wedding planner, stylist and owner of Alle Gebeure based in Belgium said
“It was an amazing day with an amazing group of talented people, the part I liked the most was the styling we did in the afternoon. The preview and result is really beautiful. I learnt to look outside of the wedding industry before you set up a styled wedding shoot, and also to research what themes and trends brides and blogs are looking for. Also that you have to educate your clients in styling! Louise gave some really good tips for vendors and programs for making a lookbook or moodboards for my bridal couples. That helped me a lot!”
Eveline, who runs Dutch wedding planning and styling company Wedding Eve, said of the whole day…
“Louise gave many insights how to organize and create perfect styling. Her advice is directly applicable in my business which is great. Besides her huge knowledge Louise is a pleasant, warm personality and really enthousiastic about her job. When I unfortunetely missed a part of the morning session, she proposed to arrange a Skype meeting to inform me about the part I missed. I really appreciate her kind initiative and it was lovely to talk to her again. I can definitely recommend this wonderful styling workshop!”
I adored meeting this talented bunch of wedding pro’s and can’t wait to see some of their upcoming shoots and weddings when they put in to practice all they’ve learned!
I’ll be hosting more workshops later in 2015, visit www.louisebeukes.com to find out more.
