fab find #18 : alexandra king and makemeadress
I love sharing new and exciting finds every Friday, especially the unique, the passionate and the personal.
Alexandra King is one of those finds that makes me super excited! Launching her first bridal collection this year, she has brough a freshness and excitement to her designs that is completely infectious. The feminine, playful and timeless creations are inspired by the golden age of glamour, Paris Couture and the silver screen, interpreted in a modern and very British style.
Each dress is hand made in her Somerset studio, using carefully sourced silks, vintage fabrics and hand stitched beading and embellishments. Fabrics and materials are carefully sourced to ensure they meet ethical credentials.
From fairytale tulle to classic elegance, I love every single piece in this collection!
For brides planning fifties-style weddings, the first two pieces are pretty and perfect!
I love the shape of this feminine prom-style dress, with an embellished one shoulder detail and silk oversized bow giving a modern twist on classic 1950’s style. The dress is made from handwoven silk, layers of soft tulle and finished with an original vintage brooch detail.
A charming vintage-imspired tea-length dress has a beautiful nipped in waist accentuated with a hand-beaded belt. The integrated corset gives a fitted sihouette, whilst the layers of netting create the most beautifully swishy skirt, perfect for your first dance!
For a modern elopement or city hall wedding, the next dress is a classic option
Effortlessly chic this ivory satin shift creates a beautiful modern silhouette with a tulip-shaped skirt and beautiful hand beaded belt.
The next two dresses are pure glamour, inspired by 1930’s Hollywood and stunning choices for an evening wedding.
I love the rhinestone bow and cross over back detail of this dress! The short train and delicately gathered waist creates the softest A-line skirt, any bride wearing this dress will feel like they are gliding across the room!
The softly draped bow detail of this dress just oozes glamour! The sweetheart bodice is cinched at the waist before flowing out into a stunning fishtail to create the perfect hourglass shape.
For a modern fairytale wedding, this is the dress guaranteed to make any bride feel like a princess! Romantic layers of the softest tulle create an ethereal feel, I love the one shoulder tulle detail with the satin sweetheart neckline .
Alexandra also designs a range of quirky vintage-inspired prom and cocktail dresses, perfect for your bridesmaids, and a small children’s collection too! The ready to wear collection is available at ASOS Marketplace and on Etsy, with the full bridal collection and accessories also available on Etsy and direct. Alexandra also accepts bespoke requests and commissions, and you can see some of her stunning creations here.
Wedding dresses are made to order, starting from just £700 and available in 6-8 weeks.
