inspiration board #61: retro beach {red, aqua & yellow}

Happy Bank Holiday Monday! Typically, there’s no sunshine in sight so I hope today’s inspiration board will inject a little light and happiness into your Monday!

Think of British holidays and my mind turns to the seaside, beach huts and bunting with a quirky retro vibe.  But instead of going all Jubilee on you (I’ll save that for later in the year!) today we’re playing with a fun and fresh colour combination.  Red and aqua is a classic vintage-retro palette, a soft minty blue acting as the perfect backdrop to make a vibrant red really pop, but add a punch of yellow to the mix, and you get a fun twist on the theme that I really love!  Retro touches like proper glass coke bottles, candy stripes and vintage tins tie the scheme together.  Big blooms are perfect, roses, carnations and ranunculus add texture to colour block arrangements, and throw in a little foliage for a looser, vintage take.   One long banquet table for your reception, cutlery tied with ribbons, adds a celebratory ‘street picnic’ feel.  To add to the relaxed vibe, why not consider a coloured dress?  I love the way this soft aqua Tasty Vintage dress contrasts against the bride’s red shoes.  And just how much fun would it be to bring this cute pug to your wedding!!
