Janine & Ewald’s romantic coral wedding
Morning beautiful brides!
I’m so excited to share today’s special wedding! I first met bride-to-be Janine at The Pretty Blog workshop in London last July, when at the end of the session two beautiful ladies came to ask me a few questions about bringing their ideas together and looking for some help. Janine and Ariane, best friends and brides, were helping each other plan their weddings – and being each other’s maid of honour! A few weeks later we met up at the Peggy Porschen Parlour for an afternoon of tea, cake and inspiration and spent a fun few hours looking at some seriously pretty Pinterest images and ideas. As soon as Janine told me her plans, and that her photographer was going to be Charlene Schreuder, I had a pretty good idea that this was going to be something special! Fast forward a few months and Janine is a Mrs, and I get to share their gorgeous wedding with you!! With an on trend coral and silver colour palette, amazing florals, and fun DIY details, Janine and Ewald’s day showcases their love in such a stylish way!
Ewald and I worked together for 3 years in the same auditing firm…but never really noticed each other much…then we were lucky enough to go to New York for 3 months on a secondment with a couple of our friends. In the last 2 weeks of being there,we were sitting next to each other in office and actually started talking and got to know each other and then out of the blue the sparks just began to fly. :)
He got 10/10 for his proposal…:) He completely surprised me…organised leave with my boss and took me away on a surprise weekend to Venice. Venice was the best place he could ever do it…as it was one of my favourite places in the world and it was our first European city we visited together when we came to live in the UK. He disappeared one evening and left a note to say he is in the lobby. I got there, but no Ewald. The receptionist called me over and took out a map and started to explain where I should go to find him…the place she sent me was a little stall on the water where we drank Italian Prosecco for the first time…which I LOVE bye the way. As I arrived there the stall owner came over with a little bottle of Prosecco for me and gave me further instructions where to find him. 10 min later I find him sitting on a picnic blanket covered in roses in the Venetian gardens with all my favourite snacks & champagne :) I knew this had to be it…was the happiest moment ever! :)
My dress. Oh my I think this was my favourite part of the whole wedding planning….I absolutely loved it!!! The designer was Ilse Roux from Cape Town and she was amazing. I went to Cape Town for a week in August to get everything worked out for the wedding and I went to meet Ilse the one morning…explained to her roughly what I was thinking of…within 5 min she was drawing exactly what I wanted! Within the next 2 days she bought the material and did a rough fitting. I left for London knowing I would only fit my dress again 4 days before the wedding! The day I went for my fitting I could not stop smiling, it fitted like a glove, everything was perfect….I felt like a princess!:) My earings and shoes I fell in love with the moment I saw them. My shoes were a stunning pair made by Jenny Packham for Debenhams, and my earrings were Swarovski. My veil was also from Ilse Roux with Swarovski crystals to match the top of my dress.
For my hair I looked at several Pinterest photo’s and decided on a loose curly look, something different to how I always look, and Ida Webster worked her magic. My make up I left in the hands of the amazing Merlene Joy. She immediately knew what would look best and I absolutely loved it! Especially the bold and striking coral lipstick! It was a pleasure having these two ladies look after me the day of the wedding, they were awesome!
We got married at a beautiful farm called Groenrivier outside a little town in South Africa called Riebeeck Kasteel. We chose the venue as that valley is just stunning and everything was so nice and green and peaceful. The venue was also nice and big and had a stunning big porch in front where our guests could enjoy the beautiful summer evening! Exactly what we were looking for.
When I started planning I had no idea what I wanted. Pinterest became my best friend, and after seeing a stunning photo of coral flowers I decided I wanted to use coral, silver and white. Once I decided on a colour palette it was easier, your brain just starts overflowing with ideas! I had a consultation with Louise from b.loved in London, who created a mood board putting together all the ideas we had chatted about, which I took along I went to meet the florist/stylist in Cape Town -Mint and Magnolia. They are two amazing ladies and I left there so excited and knowing I absolutely had to get them to do our wedding. They did an amazing job with the flowers and décor!
I wanted a fresh vibrant summer wedding. My bridesmaids were dressed in short flowing strapless coral dresses with silver diamanté jewellery and the groomsmen and groom had grey suits with white and coral striped ties, white shirts and silver cufflinks. The ties and dresses matched perfectly.. which contributed to the touch of coral and summer I wanted.
My mom was a star and designed a little newspaper with messages and stories from family and friends as well as the evenings program and all necessary info. This was printed on actual newspaper and rolled and rounded off by a round white lint with coral hearts on. They fitted in perfectly with the theme and was so special! My dad also worked hard in making a few black boards on which one of them we wrote a message to my husband to be, which the page boy walked down the aisle, to let him know I am on my way and not late – as usual! It was perfect little icebreaker :)
My photographer was Charlene Schreuder. She was awesome…she made us feel so comfortable and her photos are absolutely amazing. It was one of my hardest choices to choose a photographer, but I chose Charlene as her style of photos excited me She captures real life moments and small little detail, which makes a massive difference.
the best bit
It is really hard to pick a favourite moment….but think it was putting on my wedding dress on the day of the wedding and realising the day and time has come! It was incredible feeling…could never feel happier!
advice from the bride
I would not do much differently…except maybe I would not have left so many things for the last week before the wedding,as it was very very tiring, but I did not have much of a choice as I was abroad. A tip I would give any bride…Don’t stress too much, because no matter what goes wrong on the big day….nothing can upset you then…everything still feels perfect!:) Definitely book yourself into a spa the day before your wedding…be pampered and relax and don’t think about any wedding stress.Enjoy every moment…best day of your life!!!:)
