Joana & Carlos’ gorgeous golden hour wedding

Oh ladies {and gents} you are just going to love today’s real wedding courtesy of André and Sofia at Brancoprata!  It’s no secret how much I love these guys (check out this chic couple shoot by Anneli Marinovich featuring this stylish pair!).  Their work combines everything I love, relaxed Mediterranean style with a clean modern edge, beautiful photography and pretty, pretty details. Joana & Carlos’ self-styled day combines their love of family heirlooms, contemporary vintage style and the beauty and magic of the Portuguese landscape with a fresh blue and yellow colour palette using gorgeous hydrangea and billy balls.  Unexpected, but it so works!  Joana’s dress deserves a special mention, layers of frothy lace are perfect for her hip, bohemian style teamed with a fishtail plait and minimal accessories to keep the look up to date. There’s also a rather beautiful balloon release as the couple left the church, such a lovely idea!

If you’ve ever heard the phrase ‘Golden Hour’ on a wedding blog or magazine, and wondered what all the fuss is about this is the wedding that’s going to make it all make sense.  Check out the magical light in the couple portraits. I literally squealed as I put these images into this post.  OMG, the dreaminess!

Enough waffle from me, here’s Joanna with their story!

the story

We met at Carlos’ work place. He was a newly licensed dentist and I, a dental student.  I went to this dentist appointment, that the owner of the clinic had recommended me. We often say that it was love second sight, just because the first time we meet we didn’t have time to notice each other. But after that we immediately understood that we have a lot in common! I was the one who popped the question!  I never understood why a girl need to wait until the boy decides to propose, sometimes they have to wait for years… and honestly I didn’t want that for me! I always said that when I felt Carlos was the one I would propose… and I did! We took a trip to New York and when we were in Central Park, I wrote with M & M’s “Will you marry me?”. About a month later, Carlos organized a picnic in Guincho, with a beautiful view to the sea and the gave me a Ken toy with a ring attached!!

the fashion

I never liked the princess kind of style when I was looking for wedding dresses. I always liked them more simple but with something special and when I found mine in Pronovias, I knew this was the one. Also liked the touch that the earrings give a bride, so the only thing I did was to find the perfect pair for me!! The flower in my hair, was because I thought I had everything to do with that dress. The shoes were the icing on the cake, the color in tune with the bow of the dress and the model was simply perfect. As for the groom wanted a simple suite, dark blue and an elegant tie! The watch was a gift from his parents. As for our best men and bridesmaids, each chose the style and colour they wanted.

the style

We both like the vintage style but at the same time we love everything with a clean look, just like our house, so that was our starting point, our inspiration for the wedding. We did not want to have a themed wedding, but since our childhood memories, especially family heirlooms, inspire us so much on a daily basis, we knew we wanted to incorporate them . We also wanted to remember very dear people who are no longer among us (like our grandparents), so we decided to pay tribute to them, on our wedding day! The colour was quite easy, our favourite: yellow.

the diy

We did a lot! Namely invitations, missals for the ceremony, cones for rice, a lot of the Photobooth props, a garland for our car and for the venue, etc. The inspiration came from many wonderful sites we were seeing at the time we were planning the wedding.

the favourite moment

It is very difficult to choose a favourite part of the day. It was a very special day and a succession of pleasant and beautiful moments. I also had the first dance with my Dad to Nat Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’ which was a special moment.
