love shoot #24: summer loving {styled shoot}

Have you ever seen the words styled shoot on a blog (even this blog!) and wondered what it’s all about?  It’s not the same as an inspiration shoot, where a bunch of wedding professionals get together to show you how creative we can be, and provide ideas for your own big day.  It’s  more relaxed, informal shoot, usually with a ‘real’ couple modelling and a well-chosen theme.

Photographer Kathy Ashdown wanted to show her clients what a styled shoot is all about.  So, she decided to pair up with fellow photographer October Ward, a couple of gorgeous models, and their trusty cameras and set up their very own styled shoot down on the coast.  We’re the lucky ladies they’re sharing the gorgeous results with, so we get to learn what it’s all about too!

Over to you Kathy ~

When I say a ‘styled shoot’ this one really hits the nail on the head. It is not about cheesy props and matching outfits but about putting some thought and effort in to clothing and a few choice props as well as a carefully chosen location.

The shoot was styled in two different looks, a great opportunity to get some relaxed and some more formal shots, or even if you just can’t decide between two themes!

Look 1… Sarah and Matt are Rock and Roll lovers so decided for on something a little 50′s inspired and quite Rock n Roll! This is a look that is so easy to replicate with the gorgeous fashions out there at the moment think full skirts, high heels and some leather jackets as props. Our location was chosen for it’s ‘village in the past’ feel and the gorgeous grocery shop at Cley on the Norfolk coast likely hasn’t changed since 1959! For a splash of colour we used the wicker basket full of lemons and a pineapple and a leopard print umbrella to finish the look (and because it was raining!)

This look reminds me so much of the movie Grease.  You know, the demure and innocent Sandy, the quiffed and coiffed Danny, all leather jacket and attitude?  I love the dancing shots, they’ve almost got me singing along to Summer Lovin’!  It all looks so fresh, with that gorgeous yellow dress and of colour pops!

So patriotic, don’t you think?  I love the simple styling, colour choices and the beautiful windswept beach. A typical British summer!

So if you fancy styling up your Engagement Shoot a little then get your thinking cap on! A picnic in the daisies with a boho feel; patchwork quilt, patterned maxi dress, bare feet, strawberries and a home made Victoria sponge. Or how about a farm yard feel; cute dungarees, wellies, hay bales, corn fields, wheel barrows and pitchforks? The possibilities are endless, and so much fun!

So what do you think?  Will you be styling up your engagement shoot? Or how about a styled anniversary shoot?  Now, that’s something I will definitely be considering!!

A huge thanks Kathy and October for arranging the shoot and sharing their work, and the very gorgeous models Matt and Sarah, who have since got married! Congratulations you two!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

I'm also a co-founder at The Brand Studio, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive where I support and nurture wedding pros building industry leading businesses. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.

Oh why do we girls like ‘bad guys’ so much?! But an even more important question is, why do ‘bad guys’ like blonds? :)
p.s. Love those photos. They are very inspiring.
