love shoot #54: picnic engagment {lize & pieter}

Hey ladies!

I have a really cute engagament shoot to share with you today!  When South African wedding photographer Nicola Bester submitted this shoot I was drawn to the relaxed & intimate feel, it’s like Lize & Pieter are just having a fun afternoon together and Nicola just happened to be on hand to capture their love!  This couple are just so photogenic, and I love their rustic farm-style outfits.  Cowboy boots & plaid shirts? Oh yes!

I have to say, I really love it when a groom gets involved with the whole wedding thing, so Pieter you score extra brownie points for answering some of my questions!  Over to you Lize & Pieter!

(Lize) We met 7 years ago through mutual friends at University. I must say I was quite impressed when I saw Pieter the first time…I thought my friends had done very well in the matchmaking department! Pieter asked me to his formal dance a week later and the rest is history…

(Pieter) After seven years, of which two was at University and the remaining four in the United Kingdom, we were very keen to get married and settled in South Africa. We always knew we will get married one day, but wanted to take the big step once back home. During February 2010 I bought a ring during a brief visit to SA, with the plan to get engaged within a few months in the UK. Lize and I then planned a 2-week holiday to Cape Town in September 2010 and I knew that the holiday will serve up the best opportunity to ask for her hand in marriage. For seven months I had to hide the ring from her, waiting in anticipation for our holiday…

Finally the holiday commenced and one of the first things I had to do was to ask her parents’ permission to marry their daughter. I was quite surprised how easy it was, especially considering how nervous that situation made me feel. The only thing I had to do now was to find the right time and place to get engaged. As I woke up on the morning of the 17th September, the sun was out for the first time that week and I knew this was the big day! Lize and I drove along the coast of False Bay and stopped at one of the viewing points where I asked her to marry me. A whale even appeared close by to join in the occasion and to welcome us back in sunny SA…

{Lize} I loved Italy before we even set foot there! Earlier this year we went on a long-awaited (5 years!!!) holiday and fell madly in love with the country! The people, the food, the wine, the history, the scenery, absolutely everything! We had dinner the last evening at a restaurant overlooking the Ponte Vecchio in Florence and decided that our wedding must have an Italian vibe. We have used photos from our holiday on our invite, we will be serving proper Italian food and drinks at the wedding and even made our own Limoncello. The idea is to take our guests ‘back to Italy’ with us and share in the wonderful experience we had.

Now isn’t that going to a beautiful & personal wedding theme?  I can’t wait to see the results! Congratulations Lize & Pieter, and I hope your day is everything you dream of and more!  Of course a big thank you to Nicola Bester for sharing their engagment photo’s!
