love shoot #63: classic white & green {john & caitlin}

Morning lovely brides!

Today’s beautiful couple chose to have a simple and intimate wedding in Ireland.  I love the purity of their day, the natural, clean and classic white and green colour scheme totally in keeping with the beautiful fresh green landscape all around.  John & Caitlin wanted to make their three gorgeous children an important part of their day, celebrating with thrity of their close friends and family in a place close to their hearts.  The clean and contemporary images by Sona of Lila’s Photography perfectly compliment this couple’s unfussy and down-to-earth personalities.

John and I have been together for eight years and have three boys together.  We live in Australia full time now but have spent some time living in Ireland.  John is a Fitter and Turner, I am a secondary school teacher but am at home with our three boys at the moment. We live in Australia near Lake Nagambie.

John and I met when he was on a working holiday in Australia and we have been together since. I never wanted to get married but John always did. Finally he decided to ask me properly, in bed on a Sunday morning while the kids were watching cartoons. He had often joked about like it and I thought that he was still joking so when he asked I brushed him off with a “yeah right, whatever dear!” he stopped me and said he meant it this time and asked again.  I was shocked, but then responded with “I suppose..”.

We chose to get married at a church in Ireland.  Johns sister Marie is buried there (she died at the age of 8 months old) and we wanted the whole family to be together to celebrate. Also John’s father could not travel to Australia as he had a stroke over a decade ago and cannot fly or would risk another stroke. W e were excited to have a wedding in Ireland as johns family have missed so much of our lives as a result of being so far away.

We wanted our boys to be involved. We had them wear suits the same as their dads suit and they were our ‘best men’,  no bridesmaids just them. We also made the menu kid friendly. We had our fantastic caterer from Eunice Power of Powersfield House in Dungarvan do animal shaped fairy bread for entree then fish and chips in a paper cone and do it yourself ice cream buffet table for the lads and all their cousins. They had a blast. We went with something a little more grown up for us. Australasian fusion style silver service, no less!!  We chose Australian and new Zealand wines as we come from a wine district back home and it is such a big part of our community. Also they do a brilliant Sav Blanc, my favorite!

To capture just how much they love the outdoors, John wanted to get some quirky shots in a nearby well, even coming prepared with wellies! It takes a brave bride to wade through knee deep green water in her wedding dress, but didn’t they get such fun shots!

We also recruited a fantastic photographer Sona, from Lilas Photography. She was great. Really did as we wanted, even if we were a little quirky, she showed us and our lads at their best and we got the shots that will make us smile, remember and laugh for the rest of our lives. I stumbled across her by accident online , after finding that most other photographers did the same old same old. Sona has a new interesting take on what can often be tedious and repetitive.

We are a pretty basic kind of family, we love the outdoors, we love our family, good company and great food, we love a party and all that made us go with a small family affair with Johns side of the family and another at home in Australia with our other mob. We chose with a really simple garden and green theme as John and I  both love green.

Congratulations to John & Caitlin and thank you for sharing your beautiful day! Of course a big thank you to Sona of Lila’s Photography for the gorgeous images.
