love shoot: beautiful boudoir {mel}

Boudoir photography may be a brave subject for a wedding blog, but it’s one I’ve touched on a number of times.  I love the new wave of boudoir photography, one where red basques and dramatic lighting are out, and pretty, romantic lingerie, and soft dreamy light is in.  So when I spotted the beautiful Mel’s boudoir shoot over on talented photographer Katherine Ashdown’s blog, I knew it was one I wanted to share.

The romantic honeymoon suite at Narborough Hall Gardens in Norfolk provides the perfect backdrop to this pretty shoot, with Mel’s choice of feminine and flattering lingerie adding to the look without being overtly sexy.  Just before, or after your wedding, when you are looking and feeling great is the perfect time to organise a boudoir shoot, whether as a gift for your new husband, or just as a celebration of yourself.  The point of these shoots is not to be the thinnest, or sexiest, but rather to bring out your personality and beauty.

Are you tempted by the idea of a boudoir shoot?  I’m handing over to Mel who can explain far better than me what to expect ~

To anyone thinking of doing this but is a bit frightened – don’t be! If you’ve met Katherine you’ll now how easy going and friendly she is, I can’t stress enough how much fun the photo shoot was, like playing with a giant dressing-up box, plus a lot of giggling when hiding from the gardener who was passing by the window completely unaware! You don’t feel self-conscious as it’s pretty obvious Katherine is only studying the light, the angles, directing you into hilariously difficult poses to make you look ‘naturally’ perfect (I take my hat off to professional models, it’s hard work) She’s doing everything to make you look as good as possible!

I turned 34 and also got married in May, so with all the pre-wedding preening and sit-ups I wanted to do this shoot while I was feeling the best I’ve ever felt about my body, but you don’t need a special occasion to do it – a day with Katherine makes you feel wonderful anyway; in fact if she’s still working I might just book back in for my 60th birthday too (slightly less revealing poses perhaps!)  My husband loves the album as much as I loved doing the shoot, you can always ask Katherine to delete any pics you hate, but I only mildly disliked 1 out of about 80 – she is that good!

So go on, do it, you only live once and it truly is a liberating experience :-)

This shot is my favourite from the whole shoot, it’s so romantic!

A huge thank you to the beautiful Mel for agreeing for her shoot to be featured.  I hope it encourages a few of you to be brave, and celebrate the best of what you are.
