Over to Kristi ~

Ramsay and I met around a pool deck donning speedo’s back in the 90’s. It was the time of Ace of Base, braces, corduroy pants, open flannel shirts and geeky awkward school discos’ where everyone ‘shuffled’ to Killing Me Softly by The Fugees.  As well as the local disco’s, we were both relatively talented in the swimming pool so we kept bumping into each other on little school and provincial tours.  But being at the age where one is generally too tongue-tied or scared to approach anyone from across the dance floor, nothing happened.  Ramsay moved onto High School at the College of Knowledge (Hilton College) and then onto Stellenbosch to jol…er…I mean study.

I went onto Crawford College and then onto the States for 2 years, before I eventually ended up finishing my degree at University of KwaZulu Natal.  It was around this time that this internet phenomenon called Facebook was taking over the market. My brother eventually convinced me to join the social network where I happened to stumble across an old name I recognized.. From a reasonable amount of Facebook flirting we casually agreed to see each other out on the town at Durban’s finest nightclub…the infamous House of Love.. Tilt.  At the hands of the now Best Man, a few tequila’s were had and were drunkenly debated into giving each other a kiss. The rest is history.

Last July we were in Durban for one of my oldest and dearest friends, Candice’s wedding..  Ramsay managed to sneakily ask my Dad’s permission whilst I was celebrating at the main table.  The next morning we took my child (by that I mean my staffie, Nala) for a walk on the beach. . I was not looking my most fabulous, with smears of make-up still on my face from the night before, my hair not brushed and some random pair of shorts and t-shirt thrown on in haste.  Ramsay was bumbling around a rock pool down on one knee and asked me to come over and look at this “cool urchin” he had seen. I came across thinking ‘I’ve seen a thousand of these, what more is there to see’ and I stood next to him instead of in front as he was hoping. I remarked on how wonderful I thought the urchin was and stood back up to look at what mischief Nala was up to. Ramsay came around and stood in front of me and told me he loved me. My automatic response was “I love you too” but then he asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him and I if I would marry him. I said Yes of course. It took about 15 minutes of absolute shock before my eyes became watery!

I don’t really have a big wedding day vision that I have been dreaming about for years. I just want something relaxed and fun with no big fuss or expense. So we’re having a country wedding in the Midlands in KwaZulu Natal. We’re getting married on the Hilton College estate, with the ceremony in the breath taking stone chapel in the morning and the reception in the sports club afterwards – for a bit of a “day-jol”. Everything is in neutral earth tones with some flashes of décor to represent both Ramsay and I. I have a wonderful team of bridesmaids, my mother-in-law and her “A-Team” of ladies and my own Mom guiding me and helping me along the way, so I am one lucky girl!!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

I'm also a co-founder at The Brand Studio, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive where I support and nurture wedding pros building industry leading businesses. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
