love shoot: house of love {fiona & philip}

Morning lovelies! You may have noticed, after featuring Rachael & John’s engagement shoot a few weeks ago, that I have a bit of a thing for ‘at home’ engagement shoots.  There’s something so intimate and personal about having your pictures taken in the most special place to you, that reflects your personalities and style the most.  So when I spotted Fiona & Philip’s engagment shoot on wonderful Surrey photographer Juliet Mckee‘s blog I begged her for the feature!  Fiona & Philip’s story is a little different, as they haven’t even moved into their house yet, after a series of events meant the completion of their new home dragged on.  Undeterred, they decided to have their engagement shoot in the almost finished shell of their home, brimming with possibilities and excitement for their new future together.

Fiona and Philip met on a blind date arranged by one of their friends, and they hit it off straight away! She tell’s their story ~

I had just returned from a year working in Australia to sell my house and move down under permanently.  One of my closest friends called one day to say that her husband knew a guy from the hockey club and asked if I fancied going on a blind date. Secretly she was hoping the charm of Philip might persuade me to stay in the UK and not disappear back to life on Bondi Beach!! :) Not having been on a blind date before, we agreed to meet but insisted our friends join us. It had to go down in history as the worst possible date! With our two friends watching every move we made and sniggering from across the table. However 5 years later with a wedding on the horizon there must have been some spark created during that famous blind date! Who needs Cilla Black!

Before the proposal we decided to buy our first house together, after a year of searching and being glued to Location, Location, Location we found our perfect first house. Although it needed a lot of work, we eventually decided to take on the “house project” – well it wasn’t as if we were planning a wedding, so had the time!!  All sounds perfect..however 12 months later we were still waiting to move in having faced problem after problem from the builder. To escape the stress of it all, we headed to Dubai for Christmas and what a way to end a stressful year!  Philip proposed on Christmas Eve overlooking the Burj-Al-Arab. Much to my surprise (and everyone else who knows Philip) it turned out he had been planning this engagement for a while, but the plans had to change! He had wanted to propose the first night in our first home together… however that day was drifting into fantasy, so Dubai seemed to be a great second choice!

Your first home together and an engagement should be amazing but when mixed together, we found it equalled quite a lot of stress!!!! It was not been an easy ride and trying to balance wedding planning and tile/paint/carpet/kitchen shopping in the same weekend. We soon discovered there are blue jobs (boys jobs) and pink jobs (girl jobs).  When the wonderful Juliet Mckee asked where we’d like to shoot their engagement, we decided to go for our home in the hope that some Juliet Mckee magic would be sprinkled over the property! We had naturally lost some of the love and excitement we originally felt for the project however these photos certainly brought the love back to the home!

The end is in sight and the move will hopefully happen 10 weeks before the big day – just enough time to unpack and get to the church in time!
