Modern Barn Wedding at Millbridge Court

If there’s one positive we’re predicting will come out of our current global situation, it’s that late 2020 and 2021 weddings are going to be ALL about the party. Today, Rosanna & John show us how it’s done with their modern barn wedding at the beautiful Millbridge Court captured by Elsie Love Photography.

A beautifully restored 19th Century home with a gorgeous high beams & beautiful tall windows, this venue is filled with the most beautiful of light.  They chose to have a large wedding surrounded by their nearest & dearest . The decor was minimalist & designed to compliment the beautiful building, with eucalyptus branches & roses keeping to a neutral colour scheme.

How did you meet?

So there are two versions of this story; the reality is we are a Tinder success story following a swipe right and a very cheesy chat up line! However, we did go to the same primary school but weren’t exactly childhood sweethearts…  I received a text on our first date from one of my future bridesmaids asking how it was going to which i replied “Not going to lie, think I’m on a date with my husband” and the rest is history!

What is your proposal story?

We were getting ready to go on holiday to South Africa that day and having breakfast at home in our pj’s when John said he had an early birthday present for me and asked me to turn around and face the wall.   I didn’t click until I turned back round and saw him down on one knee. I “ugly cried” apparently and I’m not sure many words came out for a while…our families then turned up with champagne before we tipsily headed off to the airport and had two weeks in an engagement bubble!

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding;

We both have huge families so our guest list quickly grew! We knew all we wanted was a big party with everyone we loved in one place. The year before we had been to around 10 weddings although we were far from experts and the sheer amount of choice was very overwhelming but exciting! We are both big foodies so we loved the menu tasting Millbridge Court offered and date night evenings at the venue in the run up to our modern barn wedding.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I thought I knew the kind of wedding dress style I would go for but as many people tell you, that often goes out the window! I knew my dress was “the one“ when I came out the dressing room and my mum, mother in law and sister in law were all in tears. That of course set me off and I couldn’t wait to wear it!  John and his groomsmen wore Ted Baker navy suits with pastel blue polka dot ties. I tried not to be a bridezilla and let him choose his own (with a little guidance).

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

Both being big foodies (who like a good drink) we wanted our day to revolve around food and booze and basically be one big party!   One of the reasons we chose the venue was because of the caterers and amazing food that came with it!   A detail we chose to skip was wedding favours, our guests know how much we love them and these often get left on the table! Instead we had big jars of old fashioned sweets on the tables which seemed to go down very well! And the money we saved on those we put behind the bar for the evening party!

What were your favourite parts of the day?

John: The food, the speeches and the dance floor.  I got my moment in the spotlight to say nice things about my new wife and my family that I wouldn’t normally get to say! I don’t think I left the dance floor for the entire evening, Nexus band were amazing and it really was the best day of my life

Rosanna: From getting ready with the girls in the morning to being thrown on someone’s shoulders on the dance floor alongside John, it is true that the day goes in a flash! My favourite moment was walking down the aisle gripping hold of my dads hand and seeing John smiling and waiting for me. The party wasn’t too bad either!!

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Carmier Cakes made our perfect cake! They understood exactly the flavours and look we were after and we had so many compliments throughout the day on how delicious it was! It also made the most beautiful centre piece, we opted for a 3 tier naked cake with fresh flowers and the perfect combo of flavours!

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

Family is extremely important to both of us and around our cake we chose photos of all our grandparents and parents on their wedding days.It was a beautiful display and meant a lot to us. We also used Rosanna’s Nanny’s cake slicer to cut our cake which was incredibly special and felt as though a part of her was with us on the day

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Don’t stress about the small things and don’t try to please everyone! There is only a few ingredients you need and everyone’s perfect day is different but so special.
