Modern Minimalist Midwest Wedding

This gorgeous midwest wedding was the perfect mix of modern elegance, minimalist design, and a little bit of funk. From Jenna’s Sarah Seven dress, customised with family heirloom lace detail to Clayton’s feather bow tie, this couple is pure style.

Their Love Story

Jenna and Clayton met the summer after their senior year of high school. From the moment Clayton took Jenna’s order for a chicken sandwich, he knew he had to track down this alluring customer. Mutual friends helped to bring these lovers together.

The Big Day

The couple chose to tie the knot at the prairie-perfect, Ritz Charles. The venue was so beautiful and spoke for itself, so only required minimal décor utilising neutral colours. The glorious summer weather and foliage were the perfect backdrop and allowed guests to go in and out and enjoy the beautiful night.

The couple wanted something timeless and elegant, but it was also important for them to be able to stay late with the party-goers and be the last ones to leave. They stayed true to this wish, sitting together on the curb at 2:00AM waiting for a car to collect them.

Her Style

Jenna fell in love with Sarah Seven’s designs and felt like the dress she chose was made for her. Her modern gown was complemented by a nostalgic vintage veil worn by two generations of women before her (her grandmother and her mother). Jenna also wore her mother’s sapphire ring as her  “something blue” and incorporated lace from a 1950s dress into her gown for a hint of timelessness.

The Blooms

Jenna’s bridal look was completed with a modern asymmetrical bouquet of dreams. The flowers were kept to understated neutral tones, but Willow and Star added some wow factor by incorporating cascading orchids. For the bridesmaids, they combined dusty rose and ivory to complement their dresses.

Key Tips

  • Instead of favours, provide an environmentally-friendly memento in the form of a personalised photo booth. Jenna and Clayton ordered a neon sign from Etsy and had a friend make a stand for the sign to sit on.
  • Infuse a little bit of you into the details. Jenna and Clayton wanted to have a cheesecake for dessert because “cheesecake” was Clayton’s pet name for Jenna during the first year that they dated.
  • On the day itself, don’t stress about the details or remembering everything. Enjoy the moment with your bridesmaids, hug your mother extra tightly, and tell everyone who wants to talk to you to “Meet you on the dance floor!”. Get a copy of every speech so you can read them again, eat ALL the food, and take a few special moments to sneak away together.
