A Chic Neutral Scandi Wedding by the Sea

There is something about the simplicity of Scandinavian style. We adore this pared-back, classically elegant aesthetic. When applied to a wedding, Scandi vibes make for a crisp, clean and light-infused aesthetic—perfect for an elegant pair of newlyweds.

The design aesthetic for this styled shoot was inspired by the serenity of the environment. The stunning islands of the Swedish Archipelago formed part of Bon Viola’s vision right from the outset. The aim was to style this shoot in a way which sat hand in hand with its clean and graceful natural surroundings.

With this inspiration in mind, the design team wanted to work with a soft and timeless neutral colour palette, partnered with flowy fabrics and flower arrangements with a wow factor that were full of life. Brandwold Photography, with her keen eye for details, captured the editorial in all its beauty and with its light and airy look and feel, this wedding is perfectly suited for film.

In order to pull off such an understated style, the essential element was the lighting. The team had to find out where the lighting was at its best which helped them make key decisions on relevant details for the shoot, like where to place the dining table.

To create the tablescape, they used draped fabrics to create an effortlessly airy feel, which were combined with long candlesticks and tapered candles that reached up to the grand flower cloud overhead.

Further reinforcing the day’s light and breezy feel, the bride wore a delicate dress from Milagro, which featured romantic tulle embroidered with lace embellishment.

The colour palette was simple and timeless. Soft neutrals with delicate shades of white and blush used to tie in with the Scandi aesthetics.  In order to add a little pop, mixed materials and textures were used bringing an extra dimension to the design.

When choosing the flowers, it was important that they fitted with the same pared-back colour palette as the rest of the event styling.

Multi-textural elements came into play here incorporating flowers with different shapes and textures. This was especially important when it came to creating the flower cloud which hung over the tablescape. To be impactful, this needed to feel decadent and full whilst retaining light and beautiful.

The idea behind this hanging floral arrangement was to create a showpiece that did not take any focus away from the guests sitting at the table below. The flower cloud was created by using bold flowers like roses, alongside carnations and peonies as a light, elegant base.

  • Mix different materials and textures to bring a new dimension to the design.
  • Using flowers with an ‘airy’ feel is effective when creating a flower cloud.
  • Find out where and when the lighting is best at each point in the day.
