our wedding: stationery

If you’ve just joined us, today I’m looking at the things that inspired my own wedding earlier this year (check out part one over here)!

Being a designer, I decided very early on that I would design my own stationery suite.  Other than the colour scheme though, I really had no idea where to start, and it took me a little while (and a few disastrous attempts on Photoshop) to come up with something that both my husband-to-be and I liked!  My inspiration came from all over, looking at stationery designers, real weddings, and other designers sites.  I tended towards clean and modern design, and fell in love with letterpress!  I found two designs that really inspired me:

WeddingChicks is a great blog for all things wedding and inspiration, and they also have a downloads section with loads of great diy ideas from personalised monograms to full stationery suites!  I loved the simplicity of this design, the pop of the colours against the white, and the prettiness of the flourishes and fonts.  As part of our theme, we wanted to combine as much English and Afrikaans into our stationery and this design, however customisable, just didn’t work with so much text!

When I first saw this invitation pack on StyleMePretty I fell in love!  The perfect combination of chic and stylish, crisp and contemporary, and then I found out the super-creative bride had made it herself.  Oh, the possibilities!

I struggled for days trying to come up with the perfect ‘logo’ to use on our stationery, then in the middle of the night it came to me.  In my day job, I get to see but never use hundreds of beautiful wallcoverings.  One design in particular stood out, the beautiful, understated, feminine but modern Pure by Tektura.

So, finally, it all came together!  A mix of letterpress (for the save the dates and main invitations) and some DIY printing, all on crisp linen cardstock, bundled into chic grey pockets, and envelopes with polkadot liners.  I also designed the programmes, cocktail, bar and food menu’s, guest book cards, signage and the all important table plan, but more about those later!

The beautiful letterpress was printed by the very patient  BlushPublishing,  and the cardstock, envelopes and inserts were all sourced from  InspireMePapers, who are the loveliest and most helpful ladies, and have a fantastic range of paper products!  If you want to create your own stationery, I highly recommend you get in touch with them!

Footnote: In 2015, I separated from my husband, Andre.  Now living alone in London, I’m enjoying life as a thirty-something single, running B.LOVED and travelling around the globe with friends.  I will always look back on my wedding day with fondness, without it I would never become a part of the amazing community of entrepreneurs I now get to call friends! Oh, and I’m still as in love with the love, romance and pretty of weddings as ever!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

I'm also a co-founder at The Brand Studio, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive where I support and nurture wedding pros building industry leading businesses. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
