As the darker nights draw in and the blue skies turn to grey, it’s hard to imagine a world filled with pretty pastel shades and sunshine. But for those of you planning Spring and summer weddings, that’s exactly that you will be doing.

Nadine and Francois’ day is packed full of pretty pastel wedding inspiration galore, tied together with beautiful floral blooms. What’s more the love and happiness radiates out from every photo, all of which are perfectly captured by the super talented Carolien & Ben Photography.

People say that dating your friend’s brother is a recipe for disaster. Even more so when it starts off as a summer romance which ends with him leaving to begin his studies in Stellenbosch. Why would anyone invest any effort in that?

Well the summer romance became a winter romance and then pulled through to another summer. At this point it was no romance anymore…He had fallen for me and without even realising it I had fallen just as hard. The “Holiday” romance ended and we decided to commit to a long distance relationship.

After 4 long years of studies Francois finally moved closer to home but still not close enough for a quick coffee or Sunday night movie. He got a great work opportunity in Sabie, Mpumalanga as a Forester while I was still finishing my studies in Pretoria. At least now we could see each other every other weekend but a weekend was never long enough.

Another year went by and then things just started to fall into place. I was fortunate enough to get placement in Nelspruit for my internship and shortly after the good news Francois arranged a romantic weekend away at a log cabin in the middle of a forest where he got down onto one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. With absolutely no doubt in my mind I said yes.

This relationship that was apparently doomed from the start had overcome all odds and had shown how true love can conquer anything. So the ring was put on my finger and we were together at last.

Francois and I both have a love of nature so this fynbos meets bushveld wedding was the epitome of who we are. The pink and mint green colour choice was just for a feminine touch.

Francois and I scouted many venues before we came across Likweti Lodge but we both immediately knew that it was the right one. It is a stunning private game farm between Nelspruit and White River with the most breathtaking scenes of nature. We wanted an outdoor wedding and Likweti offers three different unique outdoor settings for the ceremony and a simple yet elegant lapa for the reception.

I wore Ghislaine by Enzoani from Bridal Wardrobe in Melrose Arch and my bridesmaids wore beautiful mint green wrap dresses from Salvation.

I was really lucky to have extremely talented people helping me with the stationery and decor. We decided on the protea/fynbos theme and our stationer designed a beautiful logo which was used on our save the dates, invitations, seating plan and wedding favours which was small bottles of jam with each person’s name on it.

She also made paper protea bouquets for my bridesmaids and the groomsmen had brooches each with a unique protea engraved on it. Even the cupcakes were decorated with miniature fondant proteas.

It’s crazy how busy you are the day of the wedding. Time flies. So the first time Francois and I were able to slow down was after the wedding ceremony during the last few photos of the couple photo shoot. We sat on top of a mountain at a lookout point, looking down onto the valley with an amazing African sunset. It only really sank in then that we were actually married and to us the beauty of that moment was a symbol of the life we are going to spend together.

Just relax…. You spend months planning what you believe to be the perfect wedding. You rehearse the proceedings of the day over and over in your mind but on the day it never happens precisely the way you imagined…. It actually ends up better…because that day the spelling error on the church programme or the perfectly timed load shedding (when the power goes off in South Africa – yes that happened to us!!) does not matter. It’s about you sharing one of the most special moments in your life with your family and friends!!!
