real wedding: a very vintage affair {leonie & rob}
Afternoon my b.loved’s! This afternoon’s real wedding is one for all you vintage-loving brides! Leonie & Rob embraced the vintage theme with passion – collecting original crockery to use at their reception, classic tins filled with flowers and a beautiful early 1900’s dress for Leonie complimented with the perfect shoes from Emmy Shoes. The talent behind the lens was b.loved sponsor Gemma from Betti Confetti – in fact, you might recognise one of the gorgeous shots of Leonie over in her banner ;)
Leonie fills us in on all the details ~
We met at university ten years ago. Rob proposed on Boxing Day 2011, which was a lovely surprise!
My dress is estimated to be from 1912, I loved it as soon as I saw it. It had amazing hand stitched detail and I love to think about all the different brides who have worn it in the past. I didn’t have a veil but chose a sparkly hair accessory. Rob had his suit made as he had a particular colour and style in mind. We didn’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen but our closest family wore a paper rose corsage or buttonhole, which looked really effective in the photos!
We didn’t have a particular theme but just wanted to have all of the things we love at our wedding. We spent ten months collecting pretty tea cups, saucers and plates to use which made good talking points on the day for our afternoon tea.One of my favourite things were the flowers we arranged ourselves in metal jugs – we added lots of greenery from the garden to white and cream flowers and they looked lovely! Also the little plants in tins we had collected looked really pretty placed around the reception venue. My paper rose bouquet, buttonholes and corsages were a fantastic find. We chose the papers we wanted to use and sent them to Moll and Mostin who created them for us.
I loved walking into our venue to see all of the things we had collected over the ten months laid out so beautifully. Then looking around to see all of the people we love enjoying themselves in beautiful surroundings was really special.
We chose to dance to Dream Lover by Bobby Darin. We had been having dance lessons prior to getting engaged so decided to put our Collegiate Shag moves to good use!
We had quite a relaxed approach when planning our wedding and I think this meant we were both relaxed on the day and really able to enjoy it. Our advice is to just have exactly what you want and not what you think you should have.
