This tablescape is romantic in style with a delicate, soft colour palette and a timeless feel inspired by Sarah Harper Flowers signature style. Sarah loves to use seasonal, home grown flowers within her work, so this was an essential component. We created an elegant tablescape with coordinating elements that worked in harmony with the beautiful details of the old building – Bodleian Library. The table is refined but full of delicate details to soften the whole feel. I wanted the look to be streamlined and precise, yet not stiff and formal, and we achieved these by using a silk runner to soften the tablecloth style, the flowers being on the understated side and concentrating on details such as the fold of the napkin and the individual placement of each flower on he place setting. We wanted this look to also be fresh and be liked by the modern-day bride, so we used contemporary tableware keeping within the colour scheme, tapered candles and kept the metal continuous in using brass candlesticks and flower vessels. The overall look sits beautifully nestled against the period details of one of the world’s finest colleges.
We also styled some key components to complete the look and add to the inspiration for our couples. A trio of delicately iced cakes were made, as was a bouquet with the same floral design and some floral cocktails, all showing how far you can go with your floral design in an elegant and simple way. Lastly, we moved some of the components around to show a second place setting option, for further inspiration.
THE COLOUR PALETTE
We were strict with the décor pieces being within the palette, but by using them in delicate tones and keeping a neutral base palette, the look remains incredibly elegant. This colour palette is perfect for a Spring wedding, keep the main colour as off-whites and by adding the delicate pinks, peaches and hints of grey, you will achieve this style yourself.
The florals in this look needed to be soft and delicate with a romantic feel. The big blousy headed peonies were key, and these worked beautifully with the dainty ruffles from the ranunculus and the dancing fritillaries, which all added to the natural and freshly gathered look. All flowers used: Foxgloves, peonies, garden roses, butterfly ranunculus, ranunculus, fritillaries, hellebores, spirea, mint, stocks.
