Rose Quartz, Hazy Aqua and Misty Grey Wedding at Watergate Bay
The Artful Event Co. share their modern and pastel coloured beach wedding inspirations captured by A Thing Like That! “As a wedding designer I’m often approached by couples who are stumped by how to style a venue they have chosen, and not for the reasons that you might think! Often my couples have chosen venues because they love their style, and their design. Watergate Bay Hotel is just such a place. With a strong sense of style and beautiful design this Cornish coastal gem is contemporary light and modern. Not a bit of the bucket and spade about his seaside hotel!
But that can stump people when it comes to designing their wedding day. How do you improve on a venue you’ve chosen because its already super stylish? How do you make it even more special for your special day! I also find people are often stumped by how to bring coastal elements into their design without going overboard or too “bucket & spade”. Sometimes a merest hint or suggestion of the surroundings is all that you need to keep your design in harmony with your location.
When designing this shoot, I was influenced by both the beautiful design of the hotel, the stunning coastal location, and its mantra of “relaxed luxury”
The subtle colour palette of rose quartz, hazy aqua tones and soft misty greys mirrors the beautiful colours of a late summer or autumn sunset at Watergate bay. Touches of gold and marble add a luxurious feel. Tiny hints of rose quartz throughout the design of the day make a nod towards the rosy red of the craggy cliffs surrounding the bay. Simple floral design includes exotic orchids and tropical foliage that have a structural feel, and suite the minimal modern style of the hotel.
To create an understated but luxurious design it’s a great tip to keep your styling minimal and focus on timeless textures and layering. This tablescape uses beautiful marble place mats and rose quartz coasters finished with gold leaf. Handmade matte finished ceramics create a contrast layered the sleek marble. Rose quartz finished with hand applied gold leaf accessories each place setting, and elegant yet simple stationery has an elegant feel. The understated luxe feel continues into the cake design, which includes a beautiful hand painted orchid, this Emily Hankins cake really is to die for! Ombre, marble and orchids – what more can you ask for!
Bridal fashion for a coastal celebration can take any style direction you choose. The beautiful blush pink and gold textured dress by Claire Headon is just perfect for a cliff top, and how about a sequin number for your rehearsal dinner or evening shindig? The beautiful Christine Trewinard dress featured on the beach, has just a touch of the modern day “Poldark” about it, with soft layers, and beautiful sleeves, and a subtle romantic pattern – which style would you choose? Handmade rose quartz jewelry from Sarah Drew, made in Cornwall is the perfect accessory for any beachside bride.
