Scandi Hygge
The term Hygge seems to be everywhere at the moment. Meaning the art of building sanctuary and community, of inviting closeness and paying attention to what makes us feel open hearted and alive. To create well-being, connection and warmth. A feeling of belonging to the moment and to each other. Celebrating the everyday. Now I know a wedding isn’t an everyday occurrence but I did get to thinking that it would be fun to take the basic principles of Hygge and use them to create a scandi cool kind of vibe wedding, focusing on the feeling of belonging to the moment and to each other; to create a warm, cosy and inviting environment with friends and family – quite perfect no!

Incorporating scandi elements into the décor can create this aesthetic and feel; think of using warm chunky knit throws and faux fur blankets over wooden tables and benches. Use icy cool greys and neutrals in your colour palette and perhaps bring in some forest and sage greens in the foliage and the odd sprinkling of berries, twigs and wood to add to that festive vibe; ideal for a Christmas and winter wedding. Candles would be wonderful to enhance the cosy atmosphere and think about the scent you use; it will help set the mood beautifully. If you lovelies are the same as me, then to really create a cosy vibe, I love warming drinks and good food. Why not try out a hot chocolate bar or mulled wine for your reception drinks. Scandi food is really on trend at the moment, so you could ask your venue or caterer to provide a Scandinavian inspired menu…yum! If that hasn’t warmed up your cockles yet, then be inspired by heavenly cashmere wraps and stunning furs and mittens that you could wear on the big day to keep you warm and snuggle up to your beau in.
