On any given day you’ll often find me lusting over the latest accessories collection to land in my inbox.  Call me a magpie but I’m so drawn to the beautiful and delicate little details that make up a bride’s outfit, of course the dress takes centre stage, but the accessories add a hint of personality and can totally transform your look – should you so wish.  While I’m sure you’ve scheduled dress fittings into your hectic pre-wedding schedule, don’t forget to save some time to try on those all important accessories too.  We can’t think of a more beautiful place to go than the boutique of luxury British accessories brand Britten, who recently invited us behind the scenes.  Nestled in the pretty Cotswolds town of Bradford-Upon-Avon near Bath, I was rather excited to share a glimpse into the prettiness of designing and handcrafting some of the wedding industry’s prettiest accessories.   Sarah Hannam provides the gorgeous photography.

Tell us a little about Britten. Britten is a couture wedding accessories company that sells only direct to brides. It means we can sell our handcrafted accessories at prices not possible with a traditional ‘bridal shop’ model. We love talking to and dealing directly with our brides rather than through a wholesaler.

How did you get started in the industry? Britten started life as a handbag company.! The change to weddings was because I saw the way bridal pieces are cherished for decades, maybe even generations. There is a huge satisfaction to designing with this is mind!

When did you open the boutique and why? We wanted to provide something new to the market. Our boutique is open plan and shares space with our design studio. All of our inspiration and ideas are on hand so it’s lovely to spend time with brides looking through silk samples and the like.

Tell us about the Britten Boutique, how does it reflect your style? It’s light, white and bright with some fabulous flourishes like our oversized baroque mirror. The colour theme is blues but it’s fairly minimal with exposed bath stone walls and wooden beams.

What can brides expect at Britten? Everything! We are all about the service, you have to be when dealing direct. We reply to e-mails quickly, answer the phone and even have instant chat on our website. Brides worry and have a lot of questions, it’s only natural, so we do everything we can to answer those questions and make our brides happy!

What challenges have you set yourself for the next 12 months? We’re expanding our collection all the time and looking for new ways to reach brides. Ideally we’d like to expand into bigger premises so we can incorporate our design studio, boutique AND production area. Imagine brides actually seeing their hair comb being painstaking hand beaded; we are still looking for the perfect spot!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

I'm also a co-founder at The Brand Studio, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive where I support and nurture wedding pros building industry leading businesses. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
