styled shoot: cake inspirations {janet mohapi-banks 2012 collection}

Good morning & hello Thursday!

Today I have some delicious inspiration to share with you! While many of you may just be at the beginning of your wedding planning, I am sure that there are lots of you reading who are getting married this year (have you begun the countdown? How many days to go?!)  As your wedding date nears, and the details are beginning to fall into place there is one really important thing your mind should turn to next… cake!  The center-piece of your reception, a fabulous wedding cake is a the place where all your details can come together in one amazing design.

To achieve that statement look, there is one lady I would put on the top of your list.  Janet Mohapi-Banks is an award winning luxury bespoke cake designer based in Surrey and working on spectacular wedding cake creations throughout the UK.  Featured in all the country’s leading wedding magazines and on national television and radio, Janet is a recommended supplier to some of the country’s most prestigious venues including The Connaught, The Dorchester and The Ritz London. She produces truly individual and creative designs, inspired by interesting objects and patterns she finds all around.  I am lucky to have met, and worked with Janet in the past year, with her designing the striking Tulip cake for my Modern Vintage Glamour shoot last summer.

Janet’s new 2012 collection was styled and photographed by an amazing team of talented (and lovely!) suppliers who know just how to create the perfect look to suit each design’s personality.  Bringing together creative styling by Stacey-Marie Chalk of Cherry Topped Bespoke Weddings, gorgeous florals by Leanne Roberts-Hewitt of Wild About and the talented photographer Juliet Mckee, and shot at the beautiful Fetcham Park House, the new collection is a feast of inspiration for every bride!

Three of the designs are based on the seasons ~

“Autumn shows the full range of the turning of the leaves from crisp green, through yellow and orange to the deep reds you also find at this time of year”

This is a bright and bold design, with the intricate detailing on the leaves adding texture and a delicate touch.

A fun and fresh, slightly whimsical design, with daisies fading into sunflowers, Summer has a seventies boho feel.  The ombre (fading) colour is a top trend for 2012, as is introducing brighter, bolder colours into your wedding palette.

“Winter depicts raindrops on a window whilst you watch from the warmth and comfort of your favourite chair.  Each raindrop end with an edible diamond making this white on white cake hugely glamorous”

The subtle touch of sparkle of Winter brings an understated elegance to the design, styled with cool silver and mercury glass with white flowers this would make a beautiful centerpiece for a white winter wedding.

“Other cakes have inspiration taken from the past eras of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.  Art Nouveau is all about the swirls and whirls and Art Deco is all about the angles”

The Art Deco cake is very unique and it is based on the architecture of the period which I believe is some of the most exciting architecture to be found.

This cake was featured in my glamorous modern vintage shoot, a bold and brave design with stunning pops of red make this a real statement cake!

“Another cake inspired by architecture is the star of the collection His Majesty.  The hand-finished sugar flowers that adorn the cake are individually dusted with edible gold that gives them subtle and understated yet undisputed luxury.  This is my favourite cake to date, what’s yours?!

Being a girl infatuated with all things sparkly, I love the understated elegance of Winter!
