supplier spotlight #10: twobirds bridesmaid

Hello lovely Friday people!

This morning I’m delighted to introduce you to a wonderful product that may just be the answer to all your bridesmaid dress problems (come on, I know you have them!)

A few weeks ago, I was struggling to find the right dress for an event I had been invited to, and remembered twobirds Bridesmaid.  After a quick chat with the lovely Michelle at their cute Notting Hill store, and a quick trip to select the right colour, I had the perfect dress that I can wear again and again!

Michelle Hailey is the European Director of twobirds Bridesmaid, a company that provides the most amazing multiway dress for your bridesmaids, whatever their age, shape and size.  The dresses are made from the most beautiful, flowing material, making them super flattering and the quality makes them feel really special.  Available in 2 sizes, 4 lengths (including a cute rosette version), 19 colours, and the ability to create more than 15 different styles, you can create something unique for each and every one of your bridesmaids that theu can also wear again!  This versatility means your ‘maids can all coordinate perfectly, whether you choose all the same colour and let each girl decide her style, or mix and match the colours.  It’s also a great solution for brides with maid’s living in different cities, or even different countries, as the dresses require no fittings or alterations.   Each one comes with an illustrated how-to for creating each look, and there’s even an iPhone app with videos to make it extra easy!  I love how you can add something even more special with a sparkly brooch to the shoulder or waist to create an even more unique look.

As well as my experience of dealing with Michelle as a customer (the service was excellent by the way), I  had the pleasure of meeting Michelle at the launch party of the new Parallel Venues, Fetcham Park House recently.  Not only does Michelle live & breathe twobirds, she is also passionate about the wedding industry, and I was keen to find out more ~

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

I actually came to twobirds as a bride to buy my bridesmaids dresses. I was sold on the dresses and the company the minute I saw them.  A few months later, thoroughly dillusioned with my old job in financial services, I was delighted to be approached by our designer and CEO Ariane Goldman with this amazing opportunity! My wedding really did change my life in so many wonderful ways.

How would you describe your overall style?

Classic and smart, yet functional. I’m not a huge follower of fashion, preferring to invest in key pieces, but these days they have to be functional too as my role is so varied it can have me going from a very important business meeting to quality checking and packing boxes at our London workshop!!

What do you love most about what you do?

The list is endless… the people, both the bridal parties and those in this inspring industry. The huge learning curve of an ever growing and changing small business, the excitement that our product brings. I even love the very, very long days as there’s always such a sense of achievement being so directly responsible for progress and most importantly a bride’s happiness with her selection for such a special day.   Seeing the dynamic between groups of brides and their maids is so interesting and often very special and when they find something that makes them so excited, it’s just priceless.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Oooh, friends, family, colleagues, peers. My best friend is a working mother of two machine, if I ever think I have too much on my plate, I just look to her and know I an push further. I’m always keen to see what other’s are doing and learn from them. You always have to be open to someone who has more experience than you and listening to them and learning.  Corny as it may sound, both my father and my husband are big inspirations to me, both such strong men with so much will and determination and the sharpest minds that help me see clearly  in a lot of situations.

What trends and themes do you see emerging for 2012?

Vintage still carries a place in so many bride’s hearts and the understated nude tones continue to be very popular. Brides no longer want a matchy matchy wedding in a lot of cases which is where we really come in to play. We’re seeing a big trend for blues and greens, the SS jewel colours were divine and I’m always delighted when brides are bold enough to carry them into their wedding parties.

What advice or tips would you give brides to be?

Just make your day your own. There’s so much inspiration out there today in blogs, magazines etc, we’re very lucky, and we should certainly be inspired by them,  but, it’s all about doing it your way and ensuring the day rather than just looking, really feels the way you want it to. Also plan as far ahead as you can, make key decisions and purchases early and be aware of lead times on all aspects so your choices are unlimted and costs kept to a minimum!! Most of all, step back, take it in and enjoy both the run up and the big day. I know that’s a lot of advice, I’m a newlywed so it comes fresh!!!

Twobirds dresses are currently available through the London Flagship store in Notting Hill and a network of 20 carefully selected boutiques around the UK and Ireland, as well as the US, Canada and Australia. The dresses are available in two sizes, four hemlines and start at £205.

Twobirds are always struggling to find sales people with “va va voom” for their weekend appointments at their Notting Hill store (I’d work there, it’s so cute!)  If you are passionate about the wedding industry, and would love to be involved in twobirds on a part time basis, then please get in touch with Michelle!

Are you considering twobirds dresses for your bridesmaids?  I’d love to hear what you think of these gorgeous dresses, which colour and style are you going for?!

This afternoon I’ll be sharing a little behind the scenes look at my Modern Vintage Glamour shoot featured earlier this week, if you missed Part 1 or Part 2 don’t forget to check them out!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

I'm also a co-founder at The Brand Studio, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive where I support and nurture wedding pros building industry leading businesses. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
