supplier spotlight #17: belle & bunty

Happy Friday readers!  I bet you are glad to have made it to the end of this week? I’m counting down the hours (minutes) until my glamorous Christmas do this evening in London, and am eagerly awaiting having my hair done by the wonderful Sharon Roberts of Wonderful Hair this afternoon.  She really is wonderful! I might share a little peek of her work on my facebook and twitter later on for you :)

Today I’m sharing one of the finds I wish I had discovered before my own big day, and am so pleased to be able to share with you all before yours.  Belle & Bunty create the most elegant, feminine and floaty wedding dresses, with a touch of vintage glamour and a modern edge.

Belle & Bunty was established in 2003 by designers Alice Shreeve and Hannah Coniam-Thompson, graduates from the London College of Fashion.  As an established brand, already well known on the celebrity circuit with their dresses being worn by glamorous ladies like Amanda Holden, Lindsey Lohan, Nicola Roberts, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Fearne Cotton and Victoria Beckham, one of their dresses, The Willow, quickly became a classic after being worn by a number of celebrities.  Made in a sumptuous Emerald Green, they suddenly had brides calling wanting to get married in green!

Around the same time, Alice and Hannah were both getting married and designed their dresses together.   It was these two dresses, The Belle and The Bunty, along with the stunning Willow dress that became the starting point of their highly popular bridal collection launched in 2010.   The beautiful collection includes something to suit every bride, gorgeous fluid shapes in pure silk that look effortless and timeless and can be treasured for many, many years to come.  Including Alice and Hannah’s own wedding dress styles, the collection is intensely personal and they love to meet and work closely with all Belle & Bunty brides to ensure they get the right dress.  Made from the highest quality silks and hand-finished the details in the UK they take immense pride and pleasure from being a part of your day.

What do you love most about what you do?

Its really interesting meeting brides from all parts of the world and hearing all about their wedding plans – everyone has something different and personal to them and to be a small part of their big day is an honour. Both of us also love designing dresses and with the Bridal gowns you can be a little bit more daring and adventurous.

What trends and themes do you see emerging for 2012?

We think that the vintage inspired trend will continue for a while yet!  It also seems that more and more people are shunning tradition and wanting something personal and unique.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Our customers have become a prime source of inspiration. We design for real women and the Belle & Bunty woman is at the forefront of our thoughts when building our collections. The time we spend with our brides has been of great value alongside talking with our customers day-to-day in the boutique where we also sell our mainline collections. We can be influenced by anything and everything. It could be a striking fabric, a sketch in an old magazine, music we’re listening to in the studio or a film. We’re both magpies and collect things as we go about our day-to-day lives; our studio is full of pictures ripped from magazines, photographs, snippets of fabrics and trims. Our finds are pinned to the walls like an Aladdin’s cave!

What advice or tips would you give brides-to-be when choosing their dress?

Pick a dress you love and feel comfortable in rather than what you think other people think you should wear. This is YOUR dress and you’ll look back at those pictures for years to come so it’s you that has to be 100% happy therefore don’t be too swayed by others opinions.

What’s your favourite thing about working in the wedding industry?

Everyone is so nice!  It is so refreshing to speak to people who are encouraging and nuturing with no big ego’s involved!

{the lace willow}

Aren’t they just exquisite! The understated elegance makes these dresses perfect for an intimate wedding, or perhaps an indulgent evening dress for a larger celebration.  If I were getting married all over again I think I’d go for The Petal, demure and sophisticated from the front, yet daring and sexy from the back.  Which one suits your wedding style?

All styles are available in Ivory or Cream and a selection of silk fabrics. The collection is available to order throughout the year at the Belle & Bunty Boutique in London and selected Bridal stores in UK and Ireland and RRP prices range from between £1200 – £1750. After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
