supplier spotlight: prezola {top 2013 trend predictions}

Afternoon gorgeous ones! As promised, we’re back with more gorgeous gift list ideas from Ali, founder of Prezola the gift list for the style-savvy modern couple!  With a background in Interior Design, and an innate sense of style (the lifestyle images in this morning’s post were all shot in Ali & Dom’s home!) Ali is back this afternoon to share her top trend predictions for gift lists in 2013 ~

Wedding gift lists have been a British tradition for centuries; it’s one of the rare occasions (after writing to Santa) that it’s polite to ask for what we want.  My first tip is always: Don’t be shy – create a gift list! It would be rude not to.

So; what are the emerging trends in the world of wedding gift lists? Here at Prezola we get to see first hand what couples are asking for and (not always the same thing) what their guests want to buy.  I see five big things right now…

The new traditionalists

We’re seeing a real resurgence in ‘traditional’ wedding gift lists, i.e. beautiful things for your home. There was a time when cohabiting couples were embarrassed to ask for anything new for the marital home, thinking it rude or cheeky. This seems to be ebbing away as we realise that actually it IS okay to replace the stuff from Ikea we’ve had since our student days. We’re getting married now!

Wedding gifts should be good quality ‘luxuries’. I don’t mean luxury in the expensive sense; just something we might not buy for ourselves. Something that’ll be around for years; maybe saved for special occasions?

One of my favourite lists right now is simply a 12-piece table setting. It’s beautiful, with Vera Wang dinnerware (Wedgwood), Reidel glasses (Heals), Sabre cutlery (Amara) and sterling silver candlesticks (Mappin & Webb). I’m sure the couple already have plates and cutlery, but this has really been thought through. This is their ‘perfect’ dinner party service that will come out on special occasions forever. Fingers crossed for an invite!

Grooms with taste

Maybe as a child of the 70’s I’ll never be able to shake off my inbuilt sexism, but I’m constantly surprised by how many of our lists are coordinated by the groom. And boy do they have good taste!

If you have an HTB-with-taste, or indeed you are an HTB-with-taste, put it to good use. Men seem to take a more methodical approach to the whole subject and the results are usually great, making this one piece of wedmin more and more men are happy to take on (and probably accounts for the power tool department at Prezola!).

Bespoke gifts

Bespoke is the big word in weddings right now, and I see no sign of that changing any time soon, with every couple wanting their big day to be truly unique.

This has now worked its way into wedding gift lists too, with more and more unique items being requested. Couples don’t want to zip around a department store in their lunch hour on a caffeine-fuelled trolley dash! They want bespoke options.

Personalised prints from Not on the High Street; engraved glassware from Dartington; hand-painted ceramics from Emma Bridgewater; art from a local gallery. If it’s personal and unique, it’s very popular right now. Guests love to buy this stuff too!

In these difficult economic times we’re seeing some very honest cash contribution requests at Prezola.  Deposit funds for your first home are popular with guests who are keen to help set you on your way. Honeymoon funds have been around for a while and are growing in popularity with couples who’ve blown the budget on the big day. Guests’ reactions to these can vary, with some happy to give money while others aren’t so keen. The only risk is that the more ‘traditional’ guests are driven ‘off piste’, buying something they think you’ll like!

If you drive matching sports cars and want guests to pay for a honeymoon in the Seychelles you might be pushing your luck!

The great outdoors

We’ve got hundreds of spring gift lists going live at the moment and our garden department has never been busier!

Hardwood benches (for the traditionalists), with your name and wedding date carved (for the bespokers). Barbecues; from portable ones to those that’ll put an Aga to shame (the grooms). Cash for kayaks (sounds like a fundraiser) but absolutely true of one list right now. And experience days from hot air ballooning to Aston Martin racing.

I hope that’s got you feeling inspired?  To check out Prezola’s predictions in detail, take a look at their 2013 sample gift list by clicking here.  I’m definitely going to be taking a look at some beautiful ideas for our new home!
