Susana & Hugo: Sweet as Honey
Morning brides-to-be. This week’s real wedding is all soft pastel shades and dreamy Mediterranean light, combined with the effortless style and photography of Sofia and André at Brancoprata. Susan & Hugo enjoyed the planning without the stress, finding inspiration on the prettiest blogs out there, combining their Portuguese roots with their romantic hearts. Susana’s choice of flowers, peonies, baby’s breath and hydrangea are romantic classics, used in the bouquets and arrangements and adorning the flowergirl’s hair in a pretty crown. At the reception, honey colours accented with pale pink and blue complement the serene surroundings, and local honey favours are a sweet way of reminding guests of their love for their home town, and each other.
We were first loves at high school in our home town 14 years ago. We met up again at University of Coimbra where we were both studying. The engagement came in a surprising way, Hugo having chosen the inspiring gardens of the Palace of Versailles. He offered me something special that symbolized the moment of grace and joy that we were planning. A single moment in a single place. We got married on the eighth anniversary of our relationship, so the date was easy to choose.
The dress choice sometimes seems the cornerstone for any bride planning her wedding. I knew what I wanted, that I loved the classic and the elegance of romantic, but I also wanted to surprise Hugo. I was faithful to my instinct and I opted for a Pronovias design with timeless lace, that I chose in the first and only visit to the store. It naturally followed after choosing my dress to add a lace veil and classic bridal shoes. I also chose a more comfortable pair from Melissa for the evening. My jewellery was my ‘something borrowed’ offered by a childhood friend. I visited blogs daily for hair & make up inspiration, I always wanted something timeless, that would highlight me in that moment. I actually liked some softness that showed my serenity that day. I got exactly what I wanted with the hairstyle by Dulce Gouveia and the makeup by Cátia Teixeira.
I always enjoyed seeing wedding photography, and that pleasure of visiting blogs became our tireless search for inspiration while planning our wedding. Upon discovering Brancoprata, it was easy to be inspired by the genius of Sofia! She composes dream scenarios, along with the unique capture of every detail by André. On their blog I found their suggestions of Style Me Pretty, OnceWed, Wedding Chicks and Simplesmente Branco, among others. Regarding the colors, Sofia of Brancoprata took charge of the whole process, we just asked for simplicity that would compliment our venu.. Pink, white and blue in every graphic detail was a harmonious and sweet combination.
We wanted to get married in a unique and inspiring place, and we knew that Casa da Ínsua would match our expectations. A place with a lovely charm, with gardens full of history that inspires us to dream and make moments even more memorable. We wanted something that the guests wouldn’t forget, without losing the roots of our beloved countryside of Portugal. The decoration was kept simple because the venue has impressive surroundings. The stationery and decor by Sofia complemented everything we wanted. Today we have the messages from our family and friends for always saved from the sweetest mailboxes that served as table markers for the guests. We managed to get our initials in wood that complemented our table. We also really wanted to have our love tree – symbol that we’ve used throughout the stationery – with the fingerprints of our guests that symbolizes their importance to our lives.
Throughout the year of our engagement we were updating the news in little blog that we created once most of our friends were away and it was good to feel them closer that way. We wanted it to be a day of sharing, from the beginning till the end we wanted above all to feel that the day was important for both of us and thank all our guests for their contribute to our happiness. The moment when I walked down the aisle and seeing Hugo will always be memorable – the whole process of preparing our wedding was delicious to us.
Who was your photographer and how did you choose them?
When we discovered the work of André, we were delighted not only by the talent that he shows in every detail, making your pictures unique and memorable but also by realizing that only someone who enjoys what he does and giving a bit of yourself in every work that surrenders to every couple is able to make the simple in unforgettable. We love photography and André is special, having made this choice just makes us grateful and lucky ones.
What was your first dance song?
“Somebody to Love” by Queen.
Is there anything you’d do differently now, or do you have any advice for other couples?
Take your time to see what you really want and like. It’s a single day that shows how unique you are for each other as a couple and to the others. A day that shows us that it is important to celebrate what unites us. Be true to yourselves and choose vendors who you know that will meet your expectations and thus you will be able to enjoy every moment. It’s your day, it has to be all about you… and just enjoy it!! and most of all that the sweet memories of the day accompany you for the rest of your lifes.
