Tips for Destination Weddings in Italy
Melissa of Elsie Love Photography shares her latest shoot in beautiful Italy, filled with incredible locations and dreamy light! She also talks to us about tips for you’re thinking of getting married in Italy! “If you’re getting married in Italy I would highly recommend using a specialist wedding planner – having someone help you plan, recommend local suppliers, translate where needed, help with the logistics of the day is priceless. Also considering the time of year as well is important. We did our shoot in September which is a perfect temperature & getting married at anytime of the day wouldn’t be a struggle! Should you consider a destination wedding within the peak summer I would consider getting married later in the day say around 4pm.
The lighting is also very different when considering a destination wedding. The sun is a lot stronger peak afternoon, from 12 to 3pm which can cast shadows which don’t look pleasing in images. We were spoilt in Italy as there were lots of quaint streets that allowed for shading with beautiful sunlight seeping in the background. You may want to consider images at sunset as the golden light makes for the most beautiful skin tones & at sunset the images can be very romantic.
As you have more likely chosen the destination wedding venue for its location I would highly recommend allowing for a 30-40 minutes of couples images to truly capture the authentic destination. I could get lost in Italian streets, from the stunning landscapes, the wooden doors, stone steps & historical buildings. If the wedding day doesn’t allow for a little extra time for your couples portraits it may be a good idea to arrange a pre-wedding shoot or even the day after shoot when you will have more time to be just the two of you. My final tip is that in Italy and quite a few places across Europe, the culture is to shut businesses during the peak of the day so this would also need to be considered when planning your wedding.”
