Tips for Heading to a Special Location for Photos on Your Wedding Day

If your wedding venue is surrounded by spectacular settings – it would of course be brilliant to make use of these for your wedding photographs! So we asked the lovely Fine Art Photographer Heledd Roberts Photography, for her advice about leaving your wedding party for some special location photos! She shares the perfect Bridal shoot to inspire you too, styled by Jade Leung. The setting of Aber Falls in North Wales is a great example of wonderful scenery for epic photos, and something rather magical for your Bride and Groom portraits!

“Your wedding encompasses everything about you as a couple. It goes without saying that you would want to look back on your day and have everything that’s part of you both reflected throughout. That’s why I highly encourage couples to choose locations away from the ceremony and reception venue that has strong meaning to them.

As a photographer, it’s my responsibility to capture every detail of your day so you can look back on your perfect celebration for years to come. Certain locations evoke emotions and bring back memories; your first date, your favourite walk together the spot where you got engaged. How wonderful would it be to have these locations captured on your wedding day, having the chance to create something beautiful and epic in a place that means so much. I love hearing the stories behind the locations, and equally enjoy choosing the best light, best background and most comfortable for the couple too! Taking some time out away from the wedding guests is important in my view, it’s a moment to take it all in and bask in the glow of newly-wedded bliss. Why not head out into the fresh air and explore!

We’re lucky here in North Wales, we have endless mountains, remote lakes and beautiful coasts – there’s not shortage of amazing backdrops – it’s a dream for hikers, day-trippers travelers and locals alike. That’s why myself along with Jade of Jade Leung Weddings, decided to create a styled bridal shoot at Aber Falls, where the rainwater falling on the Snowdonia peaks collects, then falls in abundance down to the rocks below. Here’s Jade’s words: “The North Wales wedding industry is booming at the moment! We have some wonderful venues and some very talented local suppliers … as well as the amazing scenery that is just priceless. As a wedding planner and stylist I am seeing that it is not just local people that are looking at the area as an ideal wedding location, but people from further afield are also now viewing it as a potential elopement area. Working with Heledd on shoots such as this is the perfect way of showing just what the local landscape has to offer. Who wouldn’t want this as the backdrop to their big day!”

I absolutely love how we have beautiful venues just a stone’s throw from these gorgeous locations, it would be an injustice not to utilise them! It could be a matter of heading somewhere you simply find beautiful, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you have wonderful photographs to look back on, and of course new memories of that location ingrained forever.”
