Top Celebrity Wedding Dress Trends of 2021

The pandemic may have put a downer on most social events, but celebrities are still tying the knot which means we can take a look at celebrity wedding dress trends for the year.

In the average year, there are more than enough celebrity weddings to fill a bridal magazine. However, like most people, 2020 and 2021 have seen many big celebrity weddings postponed.

As a result, there have been fewer sources of inspiration for brides to see how the rich and famous are putting together their wedding looks. However, those that have made it down the aisle have not disappointed. These brides have pulled from some of the wedding trends for their 2021 weddings, whether a classic bride or boho chic.

We have pulled together some of these incredible looks and pinpointed the wedding dress trend they’ve drawn inspiration from. See something you like? Consider a way to adapt and incorporate it into your wedding day ensemble.

Lady Kitty Spencer – Lace

Lady Kitty Spencer, the niece of the late Princess Diana, married fashion billionaire Michael Lewis in Italy. Fittingly, she wore a head-to-toe lace Dolce and Gabbana dress. This was only one of five wedding dresses she wore over the festivities but is definitely the stand-out. Interesting lace design has been all the rage this wedding season and Kitty’s dress combines the old-world modesty lace brings with modern structural design.

Ariana Grande – Classic Minimalism

Popstar Ariana Grande married Dalton Gomez at her home in May 2021. The intimate, secret ceremony was made public through Instagram posts of the big day, including Ariana’s dress. She wore a Vera Wang wedding dress that combined the classic look of satin gowns of the past with a modern minimalist design. Topping it all off, she wore a veil with a small bow, which brings to mind Audrey Hepburn’s Funny Face veil.

Issa Rae – Volume

TV and film star and writer, Issa Rae, surprised her fans with an Instagram post showing off her wedding to Louis Diame. She wore two custom Vera Wang dresses. The one she showed off in her post was a nod to the classic strapless ball gown and was all about volume. From the skirt to the trailing, voluminous veil, this look brought something extra without being overwhelming. The fairytale skirt and aesthetic is as classic as it is trending.

Brianna Howey- Modern Minimalism

The star of Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia married her long-time boyfriend, Matt Ziering, in a ceremony in the garden of a family home in California. She wore a simple dress from A LA Robe from Loho with sparse accessories for a fresh summer look. This modern minimalist masterpiece brought back memories of 90s slip dress fashion but was updated for the 2020s with a trending scoop back.

Gwen Stefani- Accessories Make the Dress

Gwen Stefani married fellow The Voice judge Blake Shelton in an intimate ceremony. However, Gwen did not hold back when it came to her dress. She actually had two Vera Wang creations for the day, but the one caught in the official photos brought Gwen’s edge to the typical bridal look, proving that accessories can make or break a wedding look. The white georgette gown with a plunging sweetheart neckline was accessorised with white cowboy boots, nude fishnets and her signature red lip.

Carrie Symonds – Boho Chic

Carrie Symonds married British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, at a secretly planned wedding at Westminster Cathedral. Carrie made headlines with her rented dress, sparking speculation of a wedding dress rental boom among brides across the country. When it comes to style, Carrie chose a beautiful boho embroidered dress from designer Christos Costarellos. Boho has been around for years but has taken off, especially with the rise of cottagecore during 2020. The tulle gown was accessorised with a flower gown to take the overall bohemian feel to the next level.

Jenna Ushkowitz – Floral Accents

Jenna Ushkowitz, best known for her work on the TV series Glee, married David Stanley in an outdoor ceremony. Jenna chose a strapless dress by Netta BenShabu and Kinsley James Couture Bridal. While the dress could be considered simple, it’s the floral accents that really brought it to life. The flowers, being the same colour as the dress, kept the dress lines clean while adding texture. Florals may not be a new wedding design choice but always stand out, especially for an outdoor affair. Sometimes a cliche is a cliche for a reason.

Emma Bunton – Short Is In

Emma Bunton, best known as Baby Spice, married her partner of 21 years, Jade Jones, in a small ceremony. The pop star leaned into the trending short-wedding dress with her Miu Miu mini featuring long sheer sleeves. While most immediately think of long trains and full skirts when it comes to wedding dresses, shorter options that show off the legs have gained popularity, both at weddings and on the runway. Despite not going for the traditional length, Emma still kept an older wedding tradition, the garter. Her white lace garter was a cheeky addition and complemented the look nicely.
