What is the UK Academy of Wedding and Event Planning?
The UK Academy of Wedding and Event Planning is part of an international brand that trains and educates wedding planners and stylists around the world and we have just celebrated our ten year anniversary, which is really exciting. All our courses are offered online so they are completely flexible and allow our students to study at a time and place that is convenient to them. Our tutors are all working wedding professionals with many year of experience and they are accessible both online and over the phone no matter how large or small the query is. The journey has certainly been an interesting one as our courses started off being offered by distance learning and sent out in the post in a big A4 folder packed full of information and now they are fully interactive E Learning courses with lots of videos, audio and of course written handouts, and here in the UK all our courses are accredited NVQ level 3 and 4.

There is a great combination of practical style assignments along with short unit projects to ensure students have understood what they have just learnt. Our students tell us that the assignments are one of the most exciting aspects of the course as it gives them a chance to consolidate what they learn by being put into the role of planner or stylist, working on real-life design briefs. Also, the relationship students develop with their tutor forms an essential part of their learning experience as the tutor will mark their work and provide essential feedback for them to learn from. Our Tutors also value the opportunity to mentor and guide their students and graduates as they take their place in the industry.

Who do we work with and how do you work together?
We work extensively with a team of wedding professionals and experts globally to produce course content that is both relevant and current with many sharing their own processes with our students to help them become the best they can be. We have many video tutorials with some of the UK’s top planners and stylists, including B.Loved’s very own Louise Beukes offering great advice and sharing their knowledge and experience. We are lucky enough to have an Advisory Board of over 30 wedding professionals from around the world who are also available to help our students launch their new career.

Our students come from all different backgrounds and often have their own successful career in a completely unrelated industry, but are looking for something that fulfils them and allows them to follow their passion. Many people don’t realise you can actually train to be a wedding planner or stylist and gain a real qualification from it. From a career perspective we find it is often likened to fashion or interior design, although most students of ours go onto launch their own business rather than working for a wedding company. Having said that we have had quite a few go and work in wedding venues upon graduation.

Why is the support for planners and stylists so important?
So many people fall in love with the wedding industry whilst planning their own wedding and this love affair creates a desire to have a career that will allow them to follow this passion. The Academy has trained many past and present brides who have all gone onto make a great success of their new career. They love the ability to do something that is creative and that allows them to be a part of the biggest days of someone’s life, whilst still calling it work. As you can imagine though planning your own wedding and planning someone else’s as a professional is very different. There are so many things to learn as well as understanding how to price your services, conduct consultations, put together client proposals, not to mention managing your social media and marketing. It is a wonderfully immersive industry, but takes a lot of knowledge, skill and hard work, and that is where the Academy comes in. We are there every step of the way for our students helping them to take those first tentative steps.

What are the key benefits of working with the UKAWEP?
As I mentioned earlier we have been training wedding planners and stylists for ten years now and are fortunate enough to have forged some very strong relationships with some of the best in the industry, which provides our students with a huge advantage when applying for job, or looking to form relationships with suppliers. People know who the Academy is and the quality of the students that graduate and this speak volumes as it gives our students unrivalled opportunities. We often receive work experience opportunities, job opportunities and we also receive great discounts on industry events for our students.

Above and beyond all else though it is definitely the quality of the courses themselves that give our students the advantage. We have an amazing student community in our private student Facebook Group and we see students from around the world chatting with each other and forming great relationships and support networks with each other.

What about work experience?
This is something that forms a big part of what we offer at the Academy. We receive new opportunities all the time as well as through our Advisory Board members. Our students have worked on styled shoots, real weddings, behind the scenes at wedding fairs and and as part of industry events.

How can people enrol on a course with the Academy?
As our courses are delivered online we accept enrolments 365 days a year and our Course Consultants are available to chat through option and to help with course choice. Often people are not sure which course they should take and what path to go down and this is where our Course Consultants come into their own, as they can offer career guidance and advice based on individual circumstances. They take the time to get to know the students before they enrol so they can make an informed decision. Of course if you find once you’ve enrolled you want to change courses that is easy to do as well, so it isn’t a problem if you don’t get it right the first time.

Enrolling is easy once you have decided which course you want to take. Simply go to our website and click on Courses, choose the course you want and hit the Enrol button. You then fill out an enrolment form and sign our Student Agreement, choose your payment plan and you’re enrolled and on your way to your new career. Its really that simple.
