Wanderlust Wedding Inspiration + An Interview with Events by Keenda

Oh we are feeling so happy today with these brighter colours of lush greenery and pastel shades and heaps of florals too! Spring definitely feels like it’s on the way which has us saying ‘Yehy!’ This creative Wanderlust Wedding inspiration is created by Events by Keenda  – she mixes modern pieces from green glassware and sweet little succulents, with golden cutlery and laser cut place mats and signage by LaserCut Works. Captured by Maxeen Kim Photography with her signature light and luminous style, we’re loving this contemporary look and pops of colour. The statement floral designs by Snowdrops Weddings & Events certainly adds to this too, with an over table installation and glorious centrepiece. Coral Ranunculus peep out among the fresh flourishes of green, as well as pale blush Peony, delicate white Sweet Peas and hidden Succulents. We also have an exclusive interview with Keenda about what inspires her style of wedding design, upcoming wedding trends and what exciting projects she has coming up!

Tell us about Events by Keenda – what do you offer and to what type of client?
A passionate wedding and event planner; ambitious self starter, making my dreams come true with Events by Keenda. Do what you love and love what you do!’  is exactly why I am in this business, for the sheer love of weddings and events with the ability to visualise ideas into reality. My logo features the Lao national flower ‘Dok Champa’ an evocative tropical flower, which most importantly represents ‘sincerity and joy in life.’ This is the exact mantra that Events by Keenda swears by to ensure we create that unique and unforgettable event you have always dreamed of.

For my clients, I offer more joy, less overwhelm, with packages ranging from full planning, partial planning and on the day coordination. There is also the hourly Bridal Saviour option at an hourly rate for those emergencies and last minute bits! Basically, book me so I can take care of all the wedmin and filter out the hassle and share all the good bits with you. I concentrate on planning a wedding that is unique and memorable day for the couple as well as for their guests. My clients tend to be the non-traditional, creative and open minded type who enjoys good company, good food, and generally good vibes.

My styling tends to lean towards quirky romantic, vintage, rustic chic and boho but I also love the modern and contemporary weddings too.

What is your favourite part of the job?
Without a doubt it’s seeing the smiles on the couples’ faces on their big day. You can see how special it is to them and it’s great to know that you were part of making their dream day happen. It is all in the finishing touches for me, from the smallest detail to the grandest gesture. We want all our clients to ‘love the moment’ and go above and beyond to bespoke their wedding to their personalities. In this regard, I love designing a concept for their wedding that reflects who they are as individuals and together as a couple.

What inspires you and what trends are you loving at the moment?
It’s just a lot of fun to be able to see your ideas come into fruition. That freedom for creativity and being your own boss inspires me everyday, as well as working with amazing couples. As a foodie I love the trend of pairing drinks with food and the whole of Create Your Own/Personalisation of food and drink stations throughout the wedding. Also I can never say no to a desert table; who doesn’t like sweet things! However, there is always the cheese tower “cake” alternative.

I love destination weddings and the rise of weekend weddings for extended celebrations with the friends and family. The neon signs are pretty cool too and the bridal fashion is amazing right now. Here are some of my favourite and swoon worthy bridal trends:

  • Thigh-high splits
  • Off-the-shoulder
  • Denim jackets
  • Embroidered leather jackets
  • Two piece dresses
  • Personalised embroidery on dresses (names, initials or wedding dates)

What would your dream wedding look like?
My personal dream wedding would be on a beach somewhere exotic, no shoes and a free flowing boho dress or two piece, with a head adornment or floral crown. Nothing too fancy, just a bonfire on the beach with a BBQ, ideally with a seafood feast and lots of booze and dancing to live music. The wedding ceremony would be short and sweet with a wedding arch with florals and macrame and petal aligned aisle and decor on the end chairs. Maybe even a traditional Laotian celebration beforehand to honor my culture, which means this is definitely turning into a weekend or even week long wedding spending time with my loved ones. A perfect intimate wedding!

What are 3 key pieces of advice you would give to couples?

If you have a particularly venue, band or any other supplier in mind that is an absolute must for the big day then get in there and book them straight away. If your date has already gone then consider alternative days, like Thursdays and Sundays are becoming more popular with modern couples and it helps with the budget too.

Everyone will have a view and opinion, trends or no trends go for what you want! It’s your day, so make sure you have it your way. It’s easy to get carried away with the plethora of ideas out there but listen to yourselves and stay true to your personalities and let the wedding be a reflection of you both. That doesn’t mean be closed minded, explore and be creative and thinking outside the box is always a good thing!

The marriage is way more important than the party so don’t fall out beforehand. Really enjoy and nurture your time together as a couple before the big day and let the wedding planner deal with all the stress, that’s what we are here for!

What exciting things do you have in-store for Events by Keenda?
I am heading back to Canada this year where I started my journey into the wedding industry as an intern at Style and Elegance Wedding and Event Coordination. I am planning a wedding outside of Toronto on the groom’s family farm with a rustic chic theme in August so watch out for that! I also have a few styled shoots lined up this year and can’t wait to collaborate with some amazing suppliers and hopefully get some of them published.
