Wedding Lounge & Table Decor Styling Tips From Flo & Fox

We have heaps of advice and tips for you planning your beautiful wedding today as wedding stylist Flo & Fox shares her expert advice on two key areas – creating a stylish wedding table and the new trend of styling a wedding lounge area! “I was approached by The National Wedding show a few months ago to see if I would be interested in styling the VIP lounge for their London Excel show – I jumped at the chance, having always loved attending in the past. I think the show is a great opportunity for brides and grooms to see a wide variety of talented wedding suppliers, all under one roof.

Having previously attended the shows, I’ve seen quite a few of the lounge styles over the years and I was really keen to create something completely different from anything that had been done before. I’m absolutely obsessed with the Australian wedding industry, who always seem to be one step ahead of us here in the UK. My main inspiration came from observing the way they effortlessly combine bohemian and chic styling for a really modern look.

I decided on the theme of “Boho Luxe” hoping to create a luxury feel whilst still maintaining touches of that laid back bohemian style. I was really lucky to find Hire It who had the most amazing collection of furniture that completely brought my vision to life. I asked the lovely Liz from Flower and Fern to create some gorgeous show stopping florals in a neutral tone to compliment the furniture and other decor items, and she absolutely nailed the brief. Her flowers looked stunning and really pulled the whole look together.

I tried to keep the whole look quite minimal, choosing a colour palette of soft pinks, creams, white and pops of caramel.”

Top tips for creating a stylish table:

1. Pops of colour
Don’t be afraid of adding colour to your table. Gone are the days of generic white plates and silver cutlery that were a staple of most wedding packages over the past 30 years. Coloured plates or glassware can really help consolidate your whole colour scheme. Even a small touch like coloured candles rather than white or ivory, or perhaps black cutlery for a stylish edge would make a huge difference to the overall look of your tables.

2. Fabric and texture
Adding different textures to the table really help to create a luxurious feel – for example a silk runner on top of a stripped wooden table can create a soft romantic look, whilst a linen tablecloth will look effortlessly chic. For The National Wedding Show I added wicker placemats under the gold charger plates to add a laid back boho vibe to the overall look. Mixing textures and styles in this way can help to pull other elements of your wedding together to create a cohesive theme.

3. Stationery
Whether its a bespoke laser cut place setting or menu cards hand written in beautiful calligraphy, stylish stationery is the ultimate way to finish off your tables whilst creating a really personalised look. I opted for modern perspex place cards provided by Lilyroo to sit on top of the blush plates to add a really modern feel to the tables. I’d always recommend to have your on the day stationery match your wedding invitations, to keep a consistent theme from start to finish.

Top tips for creating a stylish lounge area:

1. Make it comfortable
First things first – your lounge area must be comfortable! You want the area to be stylish and beautiful but it also has to be place people want to sit and relax. Weddings can sometimes be exhausting for your guests (especially your older relatives) so a calm space for people to mingle or rest their feet is essential for any wedding. Opt for large sofas and armchairs that everyone will love to lounge on.

2. Continue your theme
Use your lounge area as an extension of your wedding theme, and try sourcing furniture that compliments the style of your day. Velvet sofas are the ultimate luxurious addition to a chic and modern wedding, or if you’re aiming for a more rusitc vibe try vintage leather sofas and peacock chairs.

3. It’s all in the detail
Style your wedding lounge the way you’d style your lounge at home. Adding details such as rugs, cushions and blankets really help your guests to feel at home. Ask your florist to provide extra flowers for the coffee tables to create a really beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.
